Calling black people "colored" was perfectly acceptable at one time (as were several other terms that I'll choose not to use here), calling people with Downs Syndrome "mongoloid" was perfectly okay at one time, calling Native Americans "Indians", calling people with black and white parents "mulatto"....I could go on. However, things change. "It used to be okay" is not an acceptable excuse.
