You have to not be paying attention to not know that. And fwiw, he has never been and will never be at my house. I'm guessing he has never been out of Campbell Cty.

We played Scott County in back to back regular seasons a few years ago. It proved that they were faster than us. We scrimmage St. X and generally see them or T in the playoffs and they are faster than us. I don't think we get the deer in the headlights. We know our strengths and weaknesses. Last year our advantage was a D1 QB with your typical NKY HS receivers. We also had a huge offensive line that did well in pass block. Hard for the QB to throw to receivers that couldn't get open in the extreme cold. Just the way we were built. If James Quick or Ryan Timmons were in the slot, we'd brought home a trophy.

 

First, many teams would bring home the trophy if they were in their slot. Second, did Butler run the ball or throw against SK?

Sorry, one more thing. You talk about not having all the bad teams play each other, etc. If I'm a 6a team looking to get to the top, I could care less what other teams are doing. I'm not going to play a lower division or quality team just because they need a good team to play. That's taking me backwards. I want to always move forward. I'm not going to play someone out of the goodness of my heart. All the good teams to stay good, must play other good teams that challenge them. You can throw out all the examples of the times is didn't work, but if you look over time, I bet it works way more than it fails. Way more positives come out of it than negative. You say it didn't help HHS because they didn't win state. I could say, if they weren't in a barn burner with Elder, they may have not have gotten the experience to even make it to the state game. I say playing Elder made the playoffs look easy to them, until they ran into a team on a mission!

 

Agree mostly but depends entirely upon the maturity of the program at that time. HS isn't like Bama where you recruit once great player to replace another great player. In HS you don't have elite talent every year. You have to play to your strengths and develop what you have. A lot of people said the program was dead after Miles graduated. Chad kept it alive. They said it was dead after Chad left and guys like Baldwin, Winkler, Sampson, Swanson, Bowling, Kuntz, Krallman, Hansel have kept it alive and passed it along to Racke, Vercheak, Winkler and Powell.

A lot of importance being placed on a week two coaches poll. IMO this is preseason football. Sure it is nice to get a win on Friday Night but the real reason for these games is to get your team ready for District and playoffs spots.

 

If SK feels this is what they need to do to get ready then so be it. As far as the schedule, 2 of the 3 teams they played are down severely this year so I will give them a pass on this.

 

The point I am trying to make is who cares who is number one or two in week two of the season. The most important thing is winning the last game of the season!

Like I said in one of my posts, I am beyond discussing the coach's poll. Just happens we are in this thread. I am clearly trying to counsel SK on how to bring home the trophy!!! If they would just listen to me...

BTW, if we're lucky enough to get the W this week at NCC, I hope Hellbird doesn't let the grass grow and water the field for our game at Cooper the following week.....:sneaky:

I agree with that. And it will stay alive as long as there is success. But eventually, they will have to get that signature win. The gamechanger! ...to keep kids interested. It does take time. Contrary to what people want to believe, 95% of HHS kids are homegrown. It's because they drink the kool-aid from the day they take their first steps. And that's been going on for years! It sounds like that's where SK is getting to. I really like what's going on there and like I said, I think NKY would embrace a 6A team that was competitive. SK is right there.

Probably depends on what kind of team he has this year! If he's got a team full of mudders...count on it!

Butler had two key 4th down stops in that playoff loss. Had just one gone the other way, the outcome could have been different. SK has produced 3 D1 athletes in its history. Butler had 3 D1 athletes last year!
