Simon Kenton is playing Highlands and Covington Catholic the next two years. What will people say after they play them and win? Or, lose?

 

Win or lose, NKY folks will have a new respect for them. Even in a loss, they will have challenged their kids better than any other team on their roster. Until you can play with those two consistently, you aren't going to compete in 6a titles.

By the way, we have seeded out district the last two years. And that nd team had way more than a dominate pitcher. They just graduated 7 good seniors who were 7 good juniors the year you are talking about. And they had a second pitcher that is very good as well. So you're wrong. It doesn't happen that fast. Even if you have travel kids, so do the other schools so I'm not sure why you think it's easier to turn softball around.

 

As for not putting underclass man out there, they are 6a. Why would they have to put middle schoolers out there. Varsity Football teams carry way more players on their varsity roster than my 14 player roster. Isn't that supposed to account for depth and injury??? There aren't many younger kids that would ever see a chance to hit the field regardless of all the things you mentioned. I'm surprised you can't see it has NOTHING to do with the comparison of softball vs football. It's the mindset and culture that drives success.

 

 

But at the end of the day, you are over exaggerating the point to make it sound silly when you know that I'm saying it's best to challenge the kids and not coddle them. I don't care what sport you play, I would never add a guaranteed victory to my schedule. Just not the I do it. How does having a game on your schedule that you are 100% sure you are going to win help anything?

Glad to hear about the seeding, about time. The NDA roster I referenced for 2012, shows no upperclassman, it could be wrong or out dated IDK, I only see them play a couple times a year.

 

i never said the football team needed to play middle schoolers, it is not even allowed. I said fast pitch can and that increases the number of kids that can play. Yes football teams do carry more for obvious reasons.

 

*Using rounded numbers here: HHS about 400 girls 9-12 to pull from for the fast pitch team, 400/14 =30 so 1 out of 30.

SK football 800 boys 10-12 because almost no freshman has the ability to play up, 800/70 = 12

 

Fast pitch, baseball, and basketball can have one or two dominate players that can turn around a program on their own. I am not discounting the role a coach CAN play in that turn around but football takes more than players to turn it around and it generally takes longer because of the physical nature of the sport where underclassmen tend to not be ready.

I do agree that you do not need to go schedule cupcakes just to get a win. The Holy Cross team took a nose dive after their state title. I think that a coach needs to look at challenging his team but not overwhelm them, also schedule teams that play various styles of offense and defense to better prepare for the playoffs.

The reason they want SK to play HHS and CCH has nothing to do with respect but everything to do with shoving it in uk#1fan's face when they lose. People are so tired of the way he treats other players from other tes

As well as how he treats other teams with zero respect as he acts like a child the majority of time.

 

People are tired of putting other teams down constantly when they win a game yet he acts as if SK is the greatest thing since sliced bread if they beat the same winless team.

 

That is why people want SK to play tougher teams lime other teams in the area do, to shove what he gives out right back at him.

It's not if they beat HHS, but if they beat both HHS and CCH then this place will be a ghost town lol

If that happens, you have to take a lesson from uk#1fan. When SK loses, he ignores it. It does not change his opinion in any way about SK. If Highlands beats SK 28-0 next year and the next game for SK is CCH, uk#1fan will come on here, say feed me my crow and look out because SK is going to beat CCH 28-0.

I have to agree with you....If there was ever a time to get HHS on the schedule not sure about CCH but it could not be happening at a better time for SK...not making excuses now but I have to agree that they could beat them the next two season...could I said... not saying they will. Call it luck ...call it good timing..... call it what you want...anything the last 10 years its an L for SK. They have a legitimate shot the next two seasons.

I understand what you're saying...when you compare softball to football. I'm not doing that. But your examples are the same when you compare softball to other softball programs. They are all in the same boat. Yes, different percentages of kids that can effect the outcome, but that doesn't change the mindset and culture. We only graduated two seniors last year and none the year before. The core of our squad was sophomores last year and a 7th grader that started at second. All those girls were there the year before. The difference was they believed they could win because they gained confidence playing against the best. We have never beaten ND until the finals of the region in the two years I was there. Really never even came close! It had nothing to do with a dominate player or two, it had to do with the buy in and increased confidence the girls got...playing against better competition. When we went over and competed against some of the best teams in Cincy, it made them realize the teams in NKY were not as far ahead of them as they has originally felt they were. They realized they had competed all season against teams of that caliber. They believed whole-heartedly that they could play with a team they had never come close to beating and in fact only one other team in NKY had beat in two years (i think, not positive there). Again, not saying that to brag, I'm saying it to relate to what I'm trying to say. It has nothing to do with softball, Highlands, SK or a coach's poll. We can compare the sports all day. What I'm saying is, inside any sport, the best way to improve is to continue to expose the kids to better teams and challenge them to get better. That's life!

I agree HHS may not be the team we have become accustomed to, but I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet. I think some things may have to change to adapt to what they have (maybe not as much platooning, kids playing both ways, be more creative or be more focused on what they do good), but they won't be terrible and if SK beats them, they still beat a very good team. Maybe not an elite team, but a very good team.

yes...could be a lot of theories on this one!...on both sides. Literally could see 8-10 perceptions people could have right off the top of my head. I have no idea what it the real answer is. My guess timing was just right for it to happen. But I'm sure there are many out there that are positive they know the answer!

I've heard many fans of programs in NKY say they wouldn't play Highlands because they knew Dale would run the score up on them intentionally, while other coaches would back off if the score got out of hand. Not sure if that's the case, but it's what I hear.

 

Basically, Dale liked to build his reputation by margin, not W/L record.
