Okay, I will give you that they are playing really good football against not very good teams and what is unanswered is how they will do against good teams. The question is, when will they see good teams. Playoffs? That's what happens to them. They don't see really good teams until then and they aren't tested. It's the same thing every year. I would love to see them get over the hump, but if they don't test themselves during the season, I can't see them ever getting over the hump. Again, not trying to be a jerk, but you have to know where people outside of SK are coming from. I'm really not trying to beat on them, just telling the truth. I know if you take off the SK goggles, you have to see that.

 

I have said it in the past, I love when NKY football (as a whole) does well. But I just can't get behind too many teams because they are all unproven. It's sad that I root against SK in the playoffs and it's not for the reason you think. It's because I keep hoping that if they lose, a light will go off and they will see that it's going to take more to get over the hump than what they are currently doing and someone will make changes to get them there. But it seems like they are happy with what they are currently doing each year. I would love to see them reach higher, challenge themselves, take a few lumps, but be better for it in the long run. But it's not my program. But I can tell you I think NKY is primed for attaching themselves to a 6A team that would take the next step and really be able to compete at the 6A level without using excused why they can't. I really think NKY would rally behind that team.

 

I wish HC was off the schedule. I can't apologize for Collins and Conner being bad. Those teams should be better than what they were. Once again, not our fault. Atleast we didn't play down to the competition level and win a snoozer. We took care of business and did what needed to be done in those games.

SK can be better slotted after they play Dixie and Campbell, not before.

I agree with RCC about Simon Kenton in their regular season schedule is not getting them ready to play the better 6A teams in the playoffs. Playing against teams that you are more talented or bigger than in the regular season, you may stick to a certain game plan that doesn't work against good teams in the playoffs. I don't think it is a fluke that Simon can't get past a third round game in the playoffs. That is when you start playing teams with good talent and speed and their current schedule isn't getting them ready for it. Hopefully Simon will beef up its schedule next year and play teams similar to who they will face deep in the playoffs and get them battle tested. This team has come a long way in 10 years or so, now they just need to take the next step.

I agree with everything you're saying. But I would also say that if you really want to get over the hump, then you would even need to beef it up even more than counting on Conner (typically a mediocre 5A team) and Collins (a one and done 4A team it appears) to be the teams you are counting on every year to push the limits. Nothing against those teams, but if SK really wants to get over the hump, even those teams aren't the answer. Look at most of the other good 6A teams in the state. You would be hard pressed to find any lower division schools on their schedules, unless they are very good lower division schools or very few because of past rivalries or something. With the exception of Scott Co. last year. Yes, they were and exception, but that obviously doesn't happen all the time. So let's not use the exception last year as the rule. My point is...because of the scheduling, I question whether they really want to get over the hump and compete for a state championship or are they just happy having a nice record at the end of the season? I would like to see one of the 6A schools take a few chances for the improvement of the entire program. Not live just year to year with a decent record, but really nothing to show for it. I could care less about all the excuses for not winning championships until someone really put forth the effort it takes to really compete. Just my opinion.

Last year, no one complains at all about SK playing Collins or Conner. You can't back out of a contract because the team you are playing is suddenly bad.

SC was an exception. And I address the Conner and Collins thing in the other post. It might be okay to have them on the schedule, but they can't be the teams that you feel are preparing you for the big boys later in the playoffs. Period. They are not teams that are going to challenge a good 6A team every year. Again, reach higher and take some chances. Don't put your hope in the fact that one team over the last however many years was able to win playing a weak schedule. That does nothing but provide hope. Why wouldn't you look to do something that you can control and that is the schedule that tests you. You SK fans have to know that can help, why do you just continue to defend the current system that clearing is not getting them to the next level. Either you're happy with being an above average team or have drank too much SK kool-aid and keep hoping that one day it will come true. I'd rather have control over my destiny and know that I did absolutely everything possible to prepare for the big boys I know I'm going to eventually see. Then if I fail, I can look myself in the mirror and say I gave my best effort. Again, just my opinion.

Also, Collins themselves admitted they weren't good in the SK game and that was an eye opener that helped them change things that turned their season around. And was Connner a real good team last year? Did I miss something. Again, those are the teams you are saying are preparing you for the big boys?

Let's see next year's schedule. I hope they are getting it upgraded. And yes, go play a GCL school or any very good OH school for that matter. You have plenty of teams to test you in your own back yard. If you aren't getting competition you need to prepare, why wouldn't a 6A school look elsewhere...if their goal is truly to compete for a state championship. That's what Trinity did. They didn't settle for being the best in KY. They continued to try and better themselves by seeking out better competition when they knew no one in KY could play with them.

Again, good as usual? Collins was good for one year. And Conner is up and down and still a 5A school. They should not be "the Benchmark" team for a good 6A school. That's what I can't believe SK fans don't understand. Conner is up and down, but never a consistent powerhouse. Don't hang your hat on a avg to occasionally an above avg 5a program. Any year that you played Conner, could they have been within 4 TD's of the 6A state champ?

What we know, based on scores and stats, is that SK is playing really good football. What we don't know is how they will react in a close game. We know that they have won 3 games by large amounts without one of the best players in NKY for 2.5 of them as well.

Hang on a second...Cooper has been said by several people over and over again they really aren't a very good team. Yet Cooper has played teams with a combined won loss record of 1-7 and they have scored over 30 points in their last 2 games.

 

So with that said, how can you tell if SK is playing really well and is a good team when they haven't played a team yet with a win and yet Cooper is a bad team even though they have the same record and have scored a lot of points and given up even less than SK has in the process?

I agree, I think it's time SK stepped up in scheduling and do what Ryle has done. Ryle has gone outside the area and played some big teams and they have been down several years but trying to turn it around. SK would get more respect in the area if they did just that. Go down to Louisville and Lex and Cincinnati and play some of those powerhouses if you want to brag about how good you are year after year.
