Jumper,

Who do you think will be there?

I left out "NOT"...typo :lol2:

I agree Jumper. It will be a new twist to play last game of the regular season. Should be a good one.

At this point I would have to take John Hardin completely out of the top 10. They are probably going to start out 0-5 until district play and right now I am not sure they could beat anyone on that list.

Anything in particular happen at John Hardin to cause the troubles they're having? Seems like they've had a very good team for years.

Most JH fans knew the next two years we would be down. That being said, our line play on both sides has been shockingly bad to say the least. Our O-Line is experienced but are playing horribly right now. It doesn't matter how talented the skill players are if they get hit by three defensive players as soon as they touch the ball. Also, the QB is inconsistent, which is expected. He needs to get better and I think he will come district play.

As a glass half full guy, a lot of our sophomores are getting some valuable experience and are getting knocked around. Hopefully this motivates them to get in the weight room this offseason.

After Anderson beating Clark Co the way they did this Friday night...well, it was Clark Co, they are just not very good right now so I still don't know where Anderson falls in the mix. I thought they lost a lot from last year and would take a step back, but maybe not? It will be a good measuring stick Friday night against S. Oldham and should tell us a little more early in this season where they stand.

Must say I am shocked to see John Hardin in there at all. They are 0-2. Beat by Seneca and then totally dominated by Central Hardin.

Seneca was first game starting for many JH players. Lots rebuilding this year. Also lost No. 1 running back to torn ACL in the game.

Central Hardin was on THREE DAYS' rest (finished Seneca on Monday night, played at CH on Friday night). Not many teams can pull off that feat. Plus, this is CH's best team ever (returned 16+ starters from last year's team which went 10-2 -- with only losses to 6-A runner-up Meade -- and beat McCracken at McCracken and also beat Bullitt East and 4-A champ Collins). CH had never beaten JH before, so suffice it to say this was CH's Super Bowl (up to this point).

JH also has Meade and Highlands, both on road, next two weeks. Could easily be 0-4.

However, I'm not sure there are still 10 5-A teams better than John (Harlan County got the doors blown off it by a Bryan Station team that never does anything in the postseason and HC is still in top 10). Bullitt East, which JH hasn't lost to since whenever, is ranked in the top 10 and is in JH's region for the playoffs. I'm not sure BE is better than JH.

I agree with everything you've said Hoss. I go to all the JH games and have for the last several years. The is the worst team they've fielded since I've been watching, but as you've stated, we expected the down years. I'm having trouble figuring out why the o-line is performing poorly. I'm hoping they figure it out soon.

Does this have anything to do with attrition of coaches? Specifically coach Brown no longer being a bulldog?

Iam4thecats,

I don't believe it has much to do with Coach Brown leaving. He was ready to retire and much of the coaching staff is the same. Most people knew two years ago these next two years were going to be rough as this year's Juniors won maybe 2 games when they were Freshman and this year's senior class didn't fare much better.

The O-Line struggles are perplexing to me. They moved the starting center from the last two years to tackle but they still have 3 seniors and 2 juniors starting along with Justin Carter at tight end. I cannot explain their struggles. They are physically getting dominated though so I wonder if they were in the weight room this offseason at all. I know of at least one former JH player calling out this team and telling them they should have been in the weight room this summer and not playing basketball.

However, I'm not sure there are still 10 5-A teams better than John .

CK, Good post. I don't think there are 10 other teams better than John. They just need some time. They will get some humility with the losses and the youngsters will get better with the experience. Once they get to district, I would say they would be pretty hungry if the coaches can hold them together. Still think they will be #4 on the list and host BG (if BG can get by Warren Central) in the State Semi-finals.

JH's non-district schedule would be tough for most 5-A teams, let alone for one which needs to grow and get some reps. This isn't like UK prepping for the SEC with Louisville and three cupcakes.

How often have we seen Trinity or Central take some early season losses and then win titles? Central did it almost every season it won a title, while I believe Trinity was 0-4 won year after a tough tough schedule that many teams wouldn't touch.

Ranking teams, at this point, SOLELY on wins and losses (and not taking experience or strength of schedule into account) is lazy and informed voting, IMO.

You going?

If Cooper beats Boone this week, I'd say they deserve at least some thought. If Cooper can go 2-1 over the next three (Boone, Campbell County, SK), I'd say they could be considered one of the top 5 or 6 5A teams. Go 3-0, and you're top 5. Regardless, the next 3 games will be brutal. And I'd say the only sure win will be Grant County. If Cooper can finish 6-4, I think they have a chance to make a deep run in the playoffs. They'll certainly be ready for the jump to 6A next year.

I am sure Coach Borchers and the Cooper Football Team could care less about where they are ranked in the 5A poll. While it is nice to get the recognition, I am sure that team is just fine with flying under the radar and just simply getting better every week. If Cooper continues to improve every week, regardless of their record, they are going to be a VERY tough out in the playoffs.

Much like last year, Anderson County was the #1 seed and Cooper went down there as the #4 seed and put it to the Bearcats until Ludwig, the starting QB went out. Anyone that saw that game knows that with a healthy QB, Cooper wins that game. I know it is in the past, but the point I am making is that a Borchers coached team will work hard, continue to improve, and no matter what be a tough team to play every week.

Just keep getting better Cooper and the rest will take care of itself
