Not just the kicker, but the coverage teams, etc. This is where teams like Moeller, Elder and you know who separated themselves from the 22 starters itself.

 

Like I said, CovCath should be able to matchup man for man on O and D but when it comes to the special teams does CovCath have another 22 guys that can match Moe's other 22 guys and some? I am sure Moe is very very deep and their special team players could and would be stars on other teams.

 

That is the big question mark and if CovCath can match them in those areas it will be a game. IF they can not, then it could be not so good.

 

Hey, another Cincy Goliath came to NKY not too many yrs ago and was embarrassed by a team that had zero business according to the experts of beating them. That was a St X team that had Natl Championship hopes and they got exposed and never could recover the rest of the yr. :thumb:

 

I've seen Moeller this year and going just by the look test I do not believe Cov Cath can match up man to man on O and D. Some players maybe- but certainly not 22. I hope upon he that I am wrong.

The top 10% are Division 1, and the other classes are equally built after that top 10% are taken out. Based on the recent breakdown, I was under the impression they'd have been at the bottom of D-II. I could be wrong.

 

Maybe I miscalculated how many boys CCH would have in 9, 10, and 11. If they have more than 402 (and maybe they do now with some big classes recently) they would indeed be D2. For some reason I had 375 to 400.

I think this game could be closer than some. CovCath is as good as they have been since 2006. I have a hard time believing that anyone would blow them out.

Those scores are somewhat deceiving. CovCath trailed Elder 6 - 3 going into the 4th quarter of an eventual 13 - 3 loss. The Colonels trailed X 10 - 3 going into the 4th of an eventual 23 - 3 loss. Bishop Watterson had a very good team that year and playing X and Watty back to back proved too much as the Colonels had it taken to them.

The second meeting in program history against Cincinnati Moeller ended the same as the first one for the Pickerington High School North football team — with a loss.

 

On Aug. 29 in their opener, the Panthers lost to the two-time defending Division I state champion Crusaders 21-6 in Crew Stadium in a Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown matchup.

 

The last time the teams played was in a state semifinal in 2012, when Moeller won 26-21 to end the greatest season in North’s history. The Crusaders went on to win the state championship that year and defended their title last year.

 

“I thought we had about four opportunities for big plays, and going against an elite team, you’ve got to be able to make them,” North coach Tom Phillips said.

 

Moeller limited the Panthers to only 86 yards rushing on 39 attempts.

This post is why I strongly believe in private/public divisions for high school playoffs. Just because you pay tuition should not be the reason a team is superior. Simple. It's an unfair advantage and no such advantages should exist in high school athletics. They need to be separated imo.

 

So these kids move to the #1 public school in the area, or the gloves are off and they raid every public school district in the area b/c recruiting is ok. Additionally, how many of these kids came from feeder Catholic schools? I'd think that the vast majority of the players did. Those special kids that didn't would have just transferred into Colerain. Make your school district better, and kids don't leave. In fact, they come.

Kentucky has a different problem then other states. Kentucky large public schools are often split to make two smaller schools, where as the large private schools in Kentucky stay large, and those two private schools cause all the hick hack about public/private. That is why Scott County's rise is SO important to Kentucky 6A football. But, if Scott County splits, like it looks like they are going to, then 6A is back to Public/Private Debates.

What's the enrollment of the 2 big private schools in Louisville? LexCath has a total of male/ female of 800 and lets say half are male students. Cov Cath has an enrollment of all boys, around 500-600 maybe. Christian Academy of Lou, Lex Christian, DeSale, New Cath are 2A which means they have less male enrollment. and of course their sister schools which has less than the normal public school enrollment. I can't speak for Louisville public, but in Lexington, school like Henry Clay has total enrollment of 2,500, Dunbar 2,300 Lafeyette 2,000 Creek and Station around 1,800.

Then CovCath's best chance would be tactically. Do you really like Wirth over Rodenberg??? I don't.

 

Having not seen Moeller play in recent years, I'm curious if they employ the same "look down and read a play from your wristband" technique that the Colonels utilize? I've been told they do the same thing?

It's a mix- Moeller an uptempo package where the QB comes to the line with two or three options every play. They have a hold package where they come to the line, get set, review the defense then call it from the sideline. In that respect the two programs are similar. Where they are not similar is in the number of BIG, fast athletes. No amount of tactics can overcome that kind of disparity. The spread offense Cov Cath uses is the best suited against a physically superior team- not going to ground and pound it against Moeller unless you have multiple D1 kids on the O-line.

Defensively, they will need to stop the run. I don't think this years Moeller QB (Crable) is quite as good throwing or running as last years QB (name escapes me) but- he manages the game well and doesn't make mistakes.
