You make the call

Your team scores to go ahead 21-20 with about 7 minutes to go in the 3rd Quarter. Do you kick it to go up 22-20, or go for 2 go make it 23-20?

Depends. Does the opposing team have a solid FG kicker? Have they been pounding the ball down your throat; more likely than not will go for 2 and make it next time they score a TD?

Not always as cut-and-dried as it seems at first blush.

Their team has a very good kicker most years. Was perfect for the night in XP attempts kicking, while your kicker had struggled.

Too early. Kick the XP.

Is that what the card says?

I believe the book says go for 2. But points above are valid.

7 minutes in the 4th I'd go for 2. 7 minutes in the 3rd my brain says my defense is shutting you out the rest of the way and I'm getting at least 2 more touchdowns.

Go for 2 nothing to lose you already have the lead.

I got for one. I don't start going for two until I absolutely have to. Now if my kicker is not a sure thing, that might change my mind

It's just the third quarter kick it. You have a whole half of football to play.

No question, kick it. WAY too much time left.

Kick it an move on, way too early. You may need that point with this much time left. I have seen many teams chase that one point they gave away.

Two reasons I can think of. If you miss the two, a safety, which can happen on stuff like bad snap, punter miss the ball, kick blocked, can put you in a position to get beat. Up two you at least are going to OT.

If you score again and make the extra point you are up by 9. It now takes two scores instead of one to beat put you in a position to get beat.

I say this believing you make a vast majority of your extra points. If not, then maybe.
