I would say any reason for optimism would be the number of yards the Ads gave up on the ground. The QB doesn't change that.
No, but maybe Danville scores a few more points. Does Boyle have a big dominating line? Garrad does. The center weighed in at about 360 lbs and wasn't soft looking. I'm wondering if a lot of people think Garrad County wasn't that good? It's early in the season I guess and there are still questions to be answered. Like I said I can see Boyle being favored but I'm not sure they will dominate the game.

Run left, run right, run up the middle. Ground and pound Boyle Co. wins 35-7

Danville 27

Boyle 21

Danville 27

Boyle 21

WHOA look at that! An upset huh? It's a rivalry game, I guess it can go either way. Bad bounces here and there could play a part.

Boyle has never had a big O-line. When I say big, I mean like 280 or higher. They have always had strong, tall and quick tackles and quick guards. Danville teams have always had some quickness on their teams. Now when I say always, a slow Danville team would be a quick team for most.

So, while we wait for Friday, a question to ponder: What game do you recall the most in this rivalry? If you played in the game or saw the game - which one stands out for you?

I will begin:

1979: Boyle 28 Danville 22. Last game of the regular season. It all came down to the last 5 minutes. 14-14 at that point, just as it was at halftime. Danville drove deep and lined up for a Field Goal but the ball was snapped low and the holder attempted a pass that was intercepted by Boyle lineman Robert Gilliam. He returned it inside the 20 of Danville. Ray Whitehouse took a pitch out to the house and the Rebels had a 21-14 lead with about 3 minutes to play.

Admirals drove the field and scored with :23 left on a QB keeper. They elected to go for 2 and were successful to take a 22-21 lead. Refs flagged the Ads for celebration on the field which gave Boyle great field position after a good KO return to about mid field. A Completed C.T. Wolfe pass set up the ball at the Danville 35. :03 left. Sophomore Receiver Tim Warren was put into the game and he ran to the right corner while Wolfe heaved the pass. Warren came down with the ball and a TD Boyle. Refs through a Pass Interference flag on Danville and for some strange reason made the Rebels kick the EP even though time had expired. Press Box folks thought the TD was nullified and the Rebs were kicking a FG. In fact the scoreboard registered, incorrectly, a 24-22 final score.

It would be the last Boyle victory in the series until 1996.

The game I recall most is the playoff game in 1996, when Boyle went to Danville and won 12-0. Bobby Leffew completely dominated the game and you could see that Chuck Smith's Rebels had moved past the Danville hurdle (although Danville still won their share of games in the rivalry). If I remember correctly, Danville had won something like 19 games in a row against Boyle.

It was 19 straight. Since 1979 and a couple of playoff losses thrown in.

Boyle will win by executing on all cylinders. They just look impressive the way they are so precise on offense. Fundamentally Boyle has it going on! The best athletes don't always win. Boyle 31 / Danville 10

So, with the latest vandalism of Rebel Field at Boyle County, will the Ads pull the upset?

Two years ago I recall the same thing happening (at least I recall the Victory Bell being painted) and the Admirals pulled off a 7 point upset. Will it work again?

Suddenly I smell a load of manure.
