Find it interesting this question is asked almost annually, and nobody has a concrete answer. Most bowls across the state publicly advertise payouts, leads me to think something shady going on.

I miss the Double header being at Princeton.

 

Awesome stadium and very to get in and out of.

Outside of a chance to play in a college stadium at UC, what is the "big deal" about this whole crosstown shootout thing? Does the proceeds go to charity, to the Red Cross or the many families in need or something else?

 

If the funds or the advertisement is not going to a specific group in need, I see no reason to spend good money on something that can be distributed in a more trusworthly manner...

 

I just dont understand the whole Tom Gamble retirement fund thingy...

The event has a ton of teams playing all over the place during multiple weekends. So either the event offers a good payday for participants, or Gamble does a heck of a job selling ice to the Eskimos.

 

One would have thought losing Nippert this year would have been crippling to the event, but there may be more teams participating than ever. I don't get it.

 

Like the premise of the event, and like the idea of a one-day affair at Nippert featuring four or five games. Based on the name of the event, it should be Kentucky vs. Ohio schools, but that ship sailed years ago.

 

In a city like Cincinnati, a one day event would (and has) gone over very well. Heck, use PBS as well and make it a two-day affair. Of course, you would end up with all the same schools year in and year out. No promoter is going to ever turn away Elder, Moeller, St. X, Colerain and the crowds they bring. So now the challenge would be finding someone for each of those schools to play every year.

 

FWIW, LaRosa's put on the first event of this type many moons ago. Games were played at Riverfront Stadium. It was hot as a mug, but a nice day of football. And, nobody questioned where the money went. Sadly, that event didn't last very long.

A few weeks ago Guru in another thread mentioned something about how when some officers won't do the paperwork for you and make some excuse either because they are just too lazy or incompetent (it was something like that).

 

Same thing here! Some AD's are too lazy or incompetent to pick up a phone and schedule a game, so something like the Skyline event is one less game that they actually have to do something to get it done.

 

I don't get it either. Games such as CCH and Dixie would happen anyway, what is the appeal for the schools? Shouldn't the public schools have to answer to what they get out of it? Since we are talking about possible money or other kick backs?

 

As many have said, the whole thing has lost it's meaning! If it was like the old days where a local team actually played a team from out if the area it would get back some appeal, and if those out of area teams were any good it would be interesting.

 

And when your game is at a place such as UC, it's not only higher cost for the tickets, you now need to pay for parking! How much of a kick back does this event get from a deal with the parking?

FYI, ticket price depends on location and how many games. Personally, I don't like having to pay for 2 games when I only want to watch 1.

What teams are playing in this event?

I don't know the exact name of it.

 

CCH/Dixie are playing a game they play every year in one of the two spots they play it in. It's now , though, part of the Skyline Classic put on by Tom Gamble.

 

What are schools like CCH and Dixie getting out of this? Does CCH have to give up its gate? Is each team guaranteed a certain figure?

I'm all for capitalism and cast no stones at Tom Gamble. Good for him for making this thing work. I just wonder what's in it for the individual schools besides higher ticket prices to play the exact same game in the exact same location as it would have been anyway.

In other words, Tom is laughing all the way to the bank and all the individual schools are complicit in fleecing their fans.

No doubt, Tom is the smart one here. However... I think the schools do their fans an injustice. I would feel much better just giving the school $10 or $12 to get in vs. this practice.
