I was told by one high school coach last year that the money was too much to pass up.

 

No doubt, Tom is the smart one here. However... I think the schools do their fans an injustice. I would feel much better just giving the school $10 or $12 to get in vs. this practice.

 

We agree. If I have any issue it would be with the school but , even then, I get their decision. Money is necessary to fund all of the programs.

 

So if the schools are getting lots of guaranteed money and Tom is taking the risk and ultimately profiting then I guess I don't have a big problem with it....until next year when I probably start another thread.

I can't agree because I don't see it as being ethical. It's like the regional and state tourneys charging more to get in. I don't like paying more but I get it.

....I think I'm going to be contacting Glier's Meats about creating the Greater Cincinnati Glier's Goetta Gridiron Grinder Bowl. It'll be awesome for my Lake Cumberland houseboat fund.

Again I think most of us do not have a problem with Beechwood playing Mt. Healthy at UC (it would have been in Nippert if not under repair) because that is a game that likely would not have happened otherwise.

 

So yeah if it cost $10 (and that includes another game I might not care to see) I'm okay with it because the kids get to play on a college field and their is nice scoreboard and announcers etc.

 

But its CovCath/Dixie is Week 2 and Campbell Co/NCC in Week 3 that would be played anyway at the same venues and I get nothing for my extra dollars I am forking over. I do blame the schools and the Crosstown for taking advantage.

 

Put it this way.......maybe in certain years BGP decides it can "promote" the Highlands/Elder game as the BGP Cross-River Challenge and charge $25 for a ticket and sign on some sponsors......but still play it at Elder or Highlands......as long as the crowd is at least 1/4 of the normal crowd BGP could make money, the schools could make more money................but would it be right?

Have you ever been to one of these games?

 

First time they ever played I believed they had somewhere in the neighborhood of 25k at Paul Brown Stadium. LOL, that was Highlands home game and you wouldnt believe me if I told you how much they took in at the gate that day...Lets put it this way, they didnt have to but apparently Highland felt like the fair thing to do was to give Elder a portion of the gate and gave, $20k range

 

When played at Elder you can count on 9 to 10k and at Highlands 4k. :thumb:

 

If Gamble was so damn smart you would think he would take advantage of this matchup but apparently these two schools are little smarter than that angry dude and that is probably why it remains the biggest cross river matchup every yr. Or it could be simply because these two giants don't need help generating exposure for these programs and and this matchup and TG knows this too well...Just sayin

IMO, sounds like alot of wasted time and money to me. Take the Trinity/St. X game that is played every year at Papa John Stadium. On avereage this game usually has 30k on hand watching the game....They don't need to promote the game year in or year out.....And the kids and parents don't mind the boost in prices, because its an all day event. People start showing up around noon to tailgate, for a 7pm game time....has a college game feel....You would think that with all the schools in the Cincinnati/NKY area that they would have a better showing than 4-10k....
