IMO, sounds like alot of wasted time and money to me. Take the Trinity/St. X game that is played every year at Papa John Stadium. On avereage this game usually has 30k on hand watching the game....They don't need to promote the game year in or year out.....And the kids and parents don't mind the boost in prices, because its an all day event. People start showing up around noon to tailgate, for a 7pm game time....has a college game feel....You would think that with all the schools in the Cincinnati/NKY area that they would have a better showing than 4-10k....

This was taken from the Skyline website "The Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown is the largest and longest running event of its kind in the United States. The season-opening high school football showcase, which first kicked off in 1998, was designed to provide a center stage for the premier programs in Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky"(CrossTown - ShowDown). I don't live in NKY or Southwest Ohio, so what I have to compare it to is the T/St.X game here in Louisville. The point I was trying to make was with all the teams in the area you would fig they would have a better showing for those games than what they are currently having.

Again I think most of us do not have a problem with Beechwood playing Mt. Healthy at UC (it would have been in Nippert if not under repair) because that is a game that likely would not have happened otherwise.

 

So yeah if it cost $10 (and that includes another game I might not care to see) I'm okay with it because the kids get to play on a college field and their is nice scoreboard and announcers etc.

 

But its CovCath/Dixie is Week 2 and Campbell Co/NCC in Week 3 that would be played anyway at the same venues and I get nothing for my extra dollars I am forking over. I do blame the schools and the Crosstown for taking advantage.

 

Put it this way.......maybe in certain years BGP decides it can "promote" the Highlands/Elder game as the BGP Cross-River Challenge and charge $25 for a ticket and sign on some sponsors......but still play it at Elder or Highlands......as long as the crowd is at least 1/4 of the normal crowd BGP could make money, the schools could make more money................but would it be right?

Last year Beechwood played Lima Senior at Sheakley and Nippert was not under repair. It was the second game of a doubleheader just like this year. The games were and are targeted to be played at Sheakley. Nippert under repair has nothing to do with the Beechwood game.

What makes our annual game so cool is the fact that we play at The Pit and it holds 10k and when we play at Highlands we hold 4K.

 

If we wanted to draw 30k every yr we would play at PBS every yr but we don't because we don't have too...So we choose to play in our own houses and those are two of the coolest places in HS football to play a game...Just saying:thumb:

Lol! You should get out more T. Or, out of the Ville. Those are the numbers that those two places hold. The 4k may be a little shy for the Highlands gate, but then again, last time it was played at H, they limited it to 4K and it wasn't nearly full. But, it's all about the atmosphere at these two venues. Two great places to watch a game. Elders id a top 10 venue in the country and H's is, well, come experience it sometime and you will know then.
