Freshman are HS STUDENTS.....right......7th and 8th graders are MIDDLE-School STUDENTS. What team is it? a HIGH SCHOOL team...

If they do NOT cut HS students and have middle school students on the team, then the coach has the right to put his best team on the field.....if that means a HS sits while a middle schoolers play...so be it.....BUT....and those that know me, it is a big BUT....if you cut one HS player, that means you do not need middle schoolers to give you numbers to field a V or JV team and they should not be allowed.......

 

Caveat........you have too many upeer classman for a JV and V team and not enough Freshman to field a Freshman team. In this case...middle schoolers on the Frosh team, even though you cut upper classman.

 

I would tend to agree for the most part. however, there are some high school kids that try out for the soccer team on a lark, having never played competitive soccer, and there are some kids who, even though they may know how to play the game, are just not good soccer players. In your scenario, if even one middle schooler makes a team, the coach is obligated to not cut the upper classman. Should a coaching staff be forced to keep a player like this?

Emily has the chance to get better....or to not. If compared to the other HS STUDENT Athletes, she doesn't make the cut. That is life. If you cut a Senior because a Freshman is better.....that is life.

I will use CCH and Highlands as my example... The kids that are in the "feeders" for CCH are truly not part of the CCH school system yet and could choose to attend somewhere else. I do not think that you can make the same statement for the Middle School kids at HHS, they are part of that school system and will probably not be choosing to attend a different High School.

Agree with this 100%. A coach has to have the Jimmies and Joes in order to execute the X's and O's. Some think soccer is cross country or track and that is what makes a good soccer player. Not the case at all. It is about controlling the first touch, being able to connect passes, moving as a unit both offensively and defensively, being able to position oneself in order to receive a pass, able to handle the ball with both feet and not just the dominant one, having a defender understand that you sometimes need to mark an opponent when they are in your area as opposed to allowing them to receive the ball, turn and face the goal and then attack you. Defenders can attack by being in the hip pocket of the offensive player and not allowing them to turn which often times will force the opponent to turn the ball over. Anyone that has been around the game for any length of time would know that these are qualities that above average soccer players possess and not just how fast they can run a mile or 800 yards.

 

Perhaps some people need to worry more about there own kids and not with what is going on with others because you never know what is going on behind closed doors.

So you have a daughter on the Freshmen team, sit on the hillside by yourself or on fence by yourself and want to act like you know the goings on on the varsity team. You proved you are not in the know by saying you did not know a girl quit when that was a major discussion with all the parents and players for 3 days. You asked why isn't anything being done, good question, I know he is aware of all mentioned, at least 3 players/parents have gone to the coach, he is aware of things talked about on here! He did address the cursing of other players but not sure of the rest. Do I need to PM you names of who quit, who is cursing out other players, who talked about quitting, what coaches question his style of play? I will not do it here but will PM you so you are more informed before you call others post nothing but crap! Sitting at all games does not give you the inside goings on!

I know he was club coach of year, Does that make him a great HS coach? Like I said I heard 2 NKY coaches and 2 respected club coach question his style of play.

There have been other things too, I did not list everything for you, but I guess you are aware of everything.

The first post by me was defending Brian when he was wrongly accused of yelling at players in unprofessional way. I like Brian, but there is a lot going on and I also question his style of play like many others. As a coach he needs to set the team up to succeed, and many feel he is setting them up to fail with this style of play. Maybe he will have talent in 2-3 years for this style, but is that fair to these girls now?

 

Please do PM me so I can be educated on what's going on with our program. As far as to where I sit during games, I am right there in the stands for most of the games. If my butt starts to hurt I may get up and walk around.

I know very little about soccer and don't have any girls in the household, but this is crazy talk. RCC stated girls sports are a different animal, reading this thread I have to agree. It seems like a lot of differing opinions on coaching and lineup sub patterns. It seems like a lot of crying about playing time. Just imagine HHS frosh football looked the other way for years and now two weeks in we have a mutiny in the girls soccer program Interesting double standard??

I probably could use some edumacation on the difference, but they are still two distinct different schools...HS and Middle School......right? The High School has the team.....right? Being part of the school "system" doesn't make them a High School STUDENT.....it makes them part of the system.

Because a Freshman is a STUDENT of that hIGH SCHOOL.....the 7 th grader is a MIDDLE school student.....

 

......and it is ok for a 7 th grader to play even Varsity, if they do not cut any HS students....

The high school experience includes playing sports. It is a fact of life that kids will get cut and a good lesson to learn that not everything will go your way. HOWEVER, to get cut over kids not even enrolled in your school is a pill no kid should have to swallow. Further, since AAU has overtaken all sports save football from a recruiting standpoint, the high school is no longer obligated to develop your kid into a D-III wizard. So why has this issue gotten worse rather than better?

I think you are a little off base on this, and really taking my comments out of context, I thought we were talking about "team" sports and fielding a team.

At this point I think some people need to realize something. Seventh and eighth grader ARE high school eligible. That is a fact. Whether you agree with that or not is moot. As long as that is the case the only consideration should be who is the best eligible player. End of story.

 

You have to start with the rules and work from there. Is it going to be any better if the freshman makes the team this year and then gets booted from the team the following year when the same eighth grader is now a freshman.

 

If they don't make the team then they need to train harder.
