August 7, 201412 yr I love the game the way it is. Maybe I would get rid of replay. I am not a fan of managers coming out five times a game and then turning around to go back.
August 7, 201412 yr Really not much that I'd change. 1) Eliminate the whole ASG means something garbage 2) Make the DH applicable to both teams. 3) Re-balance the schedule. Every team would play every non-division team 4 times (2 on the road, 2 at home), and the remaining 62 games would be broken down amongst your 4 division rivals. This would give everyone a chance to see the superstars of the game at least twice a season.
August 7, 201412 yr I own a team which means you work for me. You just cut 26 home games from the schedule. How am I recouping 26 games worth of lost revenue? My costs are not going to go down the same amount as the total lost revenue. It could be argued that players salaries should dropped based on the reduced work load, so that would save some. Fewer chances to see home town team would bring more people to the park when they were in town. All Weekend Series versus some mid-week series would draw quite a few more fans to those games as well. There may be a small drop off in attendance but not 26 games worth. I also was looking at this from the Position of Czar of Baseball, where my word is law. Not as Commissioner where I would have to placate the owners...:lol2:

And, as I stated, even if they were to decrease IMO they would not decrease anywhere near what I would be losing in 26 games of revenue. Will I get more per game if I only have weekend series? Maybe.

August 7, 201412 yr Put a salary cap on all teams similar to how the NFL does it. Make all post season series the best of 7 games.....no more 5 game playoffs. Once teams have earned the right to play in the post season one series is just as important as another. Teams with strong pitching staffs have an advantage in a short playoff series. It still stings that the Cincinnati Reds' "Big Red Machine" that won 99 games in 1973 lost in a 5 game playoff to the New York Mets, who only won 82 games all season. That's a 17 games difference!!! I think Cincy would have prevailed in a 7 game series.
August 7, 201412 yr 1. Reinstate Pete Rose 2. Contract the Nationals, Rockies, Marlins in the NL. 3. Contract the Blue Jays, Rays and Mariners in the AL 4. Send Brewers back to AL and Astros back to NL. 5. Eliminate free agency 6. 2 divisions of 6 teams in both leagues 7. Each division winner will play other division winner in respective leagues in best of 7 playoffs to determine World Series participants. LRCW got himself a Delorean and traveled back to 1970.
August 7, 201412 yr Do all you can to eliminate the effectiveness of the MLBPA? Those guys bargained like champs and rule baseball. The Commish works for the owners who would have to love non guaranteed contracts or a pay for play salary structure.
August 14, 201412 yr Author Happened to catch a bit of Lance McAllister on the way home from work tonight. He referenced a Boston Herald article where Red Sox owner John Henry was quoted as saying the biggest problem facing MLB is...the pace of the game. I've already stated that it'd be one of my top issues, if I was Bud's replacement. Anybody else feel the same way?
August 14, 201412 yr 1. Pitch clock like they have tried in the Minor Leagues. 2. Batters must stay in the box other than for obvious things like fouling a ball off their foot. 3. Every ball that touches the dirt behind the plate does not have to be thrown out of play. 4. Replay can be automatically requested up to 4 times a game by a team. Umps can use it anytime they feel they need to. No need for Manager to run on the field and wait for thumb up or down. 5. AL/NL interleague record decides Home field for World Series 6. All night games must start by 7:10 local time. 7. Rosters expanded by 3 to 28. No September call-ups to expand rosters 8. Every team must schedule at least one true DH a year at home with no increase in ticket prices. 9. Every team must schedule at least one Minor League game before or after a home game each year. 10. Every team must schedule at least one high school or college game before or after a home game each year.

Just a matter of enforcement. (Go figure)

August 14, 201412 yr LRCW got himself a Delorean and traveled back to 1970. Andy Messersmith is NOT happy with LRCW.
