You're the new MLB Commish

Featured Replies

Selig's out...you're in. What do you do? Seems like we've had a myriad of topics involving the game this year, so thought it'd be good to see what everybody would do if you were in charge. There's been discussion on replay...catchers blocking the plate...salary caps...automated balls/strikes...and more.

There's a couple that cross my mind. (Some might consider both of them minor.)

1.) Make games more attractive for the younger crowd (school-age). And with a good portion of the schedule (April/May/August/September/October) happening during the school year...you're going to have to have games end sooner, if you want them to attend mid-week games. I don't mind starting games at 7:05 or 7:10...but, you can't continue to regularly have these 3-plus hour long games. Speed the dang thing up. Batters want to step out of the box and back halfway up to the dugout after a pitch? Pitcher's ready? Strike. Batter in the box, and pitcher checking out the red head in the box seats behind the dugout? Ball. Players will learn, and adjust. No more human rain delays, on either end.

2.) If you're going to continue having interleague games...then I reverse the DH rules. You use a DH in the National League parks, and the pitchers bat in the American League games. The reason? If I'm going to market the fact that the Red Sox are coming to a NL town...then, I want the fans to see Big Papi bat. Hey, you can see your team in person play with their rules the other 90% of the time. Here's a chance to see something different.

What else does everybody have?

1) Great

2) I've said that too, for the same reason

DH all the way around. Sacrilege? Maybe.

But I'd rather watch David Ortiz at the plate than David Price.

Reds can't field 8 big league hitters now...and you want them to try to field 9!!!

Hey, remember you're the Commish...everybody plays by your rules. Make the call...take a stand! :lol2:

1. Reinstate Pete Rose

2. Contract the Nationals, Rockies, Marlins in the NL.

3. Contract the Blue Jays, Rays and Mariners in the AL

4. Send Brewers back to AL and Astros back to NL.

5. Eliminate free agency

6. 2 divisions of 6 teams in both leagues

7. Each division winner will play other division winner in respective leagues in best of 7 playoffs to determine World Series participants.

Everybody is going to hate me.....but

Automated Strike Zone...fair to Pitchers and Hitters, Rookies and Veterans.

4 game series each week...NL would play Thurs-Sunday and AL would play Fri - Monday (season would only be around 110 games) putting a premium on the home dates that a team does have which should have them playing to bigger crowds per game.

Once Pitcher gets the ball time limit in place to start wind up...batter can only step out of box under timeout conditions (not to readjust his gloves etc)

If seat behind home aren't filled by end of 2nd inning, team would pull fans from upper reaches to fill them.

ALL CONTRACTS capped at 3 years, keeps players from coasting after signing and keeps teams from under paying star players signed to cheap contracts.

Why would anyone buy seats behind the plate?

Why would anyone buy seats behind the plate?
I don't know they are pricy, but I hate seeing them empty. If the $$$ guys that bought them aren't going to use them give them to someone else.

1. Reinstate Pete Rose

2. Denounce the use of banned substances, those who have used them, and teams that have ignored use of banned substances by players. Make harsh and lasting punishments for players and teams.

3. Speed up the game. Pitch timer on pitcher, hitter can ask for time out to step out of the box once per at bat. Limit of two throws to first per batter.

4. Revenue sharing formula

5. Salary cap with a hard ceiling for guaranteed money and allowances for incentives for team accomplishments.

6. Salary floor to avoid uncompetitive teams (the Marlin-Astro rule)

7. Tell LaRussa to shut up. Every time he cries to the media his team forfeits a game. Cardinals never would have been a .500 team with that rule.

8. Write down all of the" unwritten rules"

1. Reinstate Pete Rose

2. Contract the Nationals, Rockies, Marlins in the NL.

3. Contract the Blue Jays, Rays and Mariners in the AL

A few questions:

Why get rid of 4 teams that get strong support?

Free agency isn't something that can be voted upon or changed.

What are you going to tell the owners after eliminating TV revenue due to your decision to reduce the number of playoff teams and , therefore, number of playoff games on TV?

I own a team which means you work for me. You just cut 26 home games from the schedule. How am I recouping 26 games worth of lost revenue? My costs are not going to go down the same amount as the total lost revenue.

Just thought this thread was for fun and we didn't have to take into consideration any of the economic aspects of our decisions.

Gotcha.

7 inning games

No divisions or leagues - play every team home and away - 3 game series - 172 games. Top 8 make playoffs seeded. 5 game series quarters, 7 games semis, and 7 games neutral sites warm weather or dome for the World Series.

Lower the pitching mound

DH all games

3 Designated Runners per game, without substitution of the player run for. No limit on how many times one player can be run for.

3 balls a walk - 2 strikes an out

15 seconds between pitches determined when pitcher has possession of the ball after previous pitch, if batter is not ready, pitch is what it is, ball or strike.

Seventh inning stretch becomes 5th inning stretch.
