Report: Gov. Rick Perry to mobilize Texas National Guard troops to secure U.S.-Mexico border - The Washington Post

 

Texas Gov. Rick Perry ® reportedly plans to dispatch the Texas National Guard to the U.S. border with Mexico, according to news reports.

 

Perry will announce his plans Monday to mobilize some 1,000 guardsmen to the Rio Grande Valley to increase security at the border, according to the Monitor, a south Texas newspaper. The newspaper quoted a state senator and an internal memo it obtained from a state official’s office.

 

Perry spokesman Felix Browne told The Washington Post he would neither confirm nor deny the report, but said all details will be given at a news conference at 2 p.m. Central time Monday in Austin. It was unclear what mission the guard will have.

 

The news comes amid the continued surge of young immigrants, most of them from Central America, crossing the border and scattered protests in a few U.S. cities from those who don’t want them housed in their midst. Perry, a potential 2016 Republican presidential contender, spoke in Iowa and elsewhere in recent days, promising to take matters into his own hands if President Obama does not act.

For the illegals that have already made it across the border and have been here for some time, I think we should go ahead and follow Rand Paul's policy in that we should go ahead and integrate them into society and start getting them paying taxes, etc. like a proper citizen. Do that, lock down the border, and send the rest that do make it across back to where they came from.

Well there you go...no problems!

The border situation is bad and has been for many years. My mom's family is from El Paso and I have hundreds of relatives who live in the area. An aunt lives on a farm that is actually on the border itself. Large groups of illegals can be seen crossing the border daily. The border is fenced around El Paso itself, but most of my relatives live about 30 miles east in a small town called Fabens. Out there there is very little to prevent anyone from crossing the border illegally. In my opinion the border patrol is undermanned and cannot patrol the entire area effectively. The "river" at this point is basically a large creek so it is not much of a burden to cross.

 

It used to be common for someone to knock on my aunts door wanting food or water, and then they would be on their way, however, now those who come across are likely to vandalize your property, even destory crops for no reason. Many of my relatives have had vehicles stolen, homes broken into etc. Drugs are everywhere, it is odd to drive through this small poor farming town, and see numerous run down homes with 100K of new vehicles in the driveway.

 

Mexico itself has gotten extremely bad. Used to be that when we would visit family down there we would always go into Juarez to shop, eat, etc. I have family members who used to frequently go into Mexico that speak fluent Spanish and know there way around Juarez like a local as they have been going for years and years. But even they will not go over there any more. It is simply too dangerous.

 

I am very much in favor of using the US military to help secure the border and protect the citizens who live there if that is what it takes. Living up north you really can't appreciate just how bad the situation has become.
