I thought you were at Manual. Sorry for the misinformation...I have no idea why, but I thought when X built their stadium, the Colts began playing at Manual.

We did play at Manual for a few years, but for some reason scheduling became an issue, so we have been at Iroquois and Southern for about 4 years now. It will be nice to have our own home next year.

Newport Catholic and Covington Holy Cross don't have home fields as far as I know.

Until a few years ago, Louisville St Xavier did not have a home field; they played home games usually at old Manual Stadium. When they couldn't interest Manual to sell the field to them so they could upgrade it, St X finally built their own. They did have the property to squeeze in a field with track.

Yes, especially if those athletic fields cause foreseen negligent injury to players. If a school builds a facility and puts their name on it, they are responsible for it's upkeep, safety of the players, and maintaince. Ever see the referees walking the field prior to a game? Or asking a coach if his players are "properly equipped", that is because the school is responsible for the safety of their students.

 

And, on a side note: I strongly feel that the football stadium, the softball field, and the basketball court are just as much of a classroom as the science lab, english classroom, or the history room.

I would also consider such negligence (if all true about the field) reason for the KHSAA to allow an immediate transfer of anyone on the football team.

After watching the Caldwell County boys today, none of them are going anywhere, except to work on winning that elusive championship .

How do you take responsibility for mother nature?

I am a upset Caldwell Co. fan concerned about the football field. Today is July 18 and the football field has no grass. The school admin. have been aware of this problem for several months. Someone in the school board or admin. has dropped the ball for lack of concern or just don"t give a crap. Caldwell Co football has repersented the community with championship caliber teams the past couple years and the kids and coaches deserve respect. The team is practicing at the American Leigon baseball field which is not school property so god for bid if a kid gets hurt. The football field needs sod and with the season only weeks away I don't believe thers enough time to have a stable field. If for some reason there not able to play any home games someone needs to be fired. The school officals have a responceability to provide safe facilities for the players I would like to see the parents get involved and get this problem solved. The players and coaches deserve better.

 

Actually, there is no American Legion baseball field in Caldwell County (and never has been). The VFW Ballpark, where Caldwell plays its baseball games and is practicing football, is owned by the VFW, which leases the field to Youth Inc. and the high school (for a whole $1).

 

Yes, the football field needs new turf. It is getting it next week. Caldwell doesn't have a home football game for 6-7 weeks. I was told the new turf would take hold in 2-3 weeks. That would seem to be sufficient time to me.

Is a field without grass dangerous?

 

The football stadium, softball field and basketball court are only classrooms if there is a class that uses them, otherwise they are where extra curricular activities take place, which imo is secondary in importance to funding core academic subjects.

The Colts were the team I followed in my high school days at HRA. I am THRILLED that DeSales will finally have their own stadium. Always will hold a special place in my heart.

I know several places that are struggling with Bermuda grass fields it hasn't been hot enough to encourage growth
