For the hard core sports fan. Would you give up sports for love?

Well, there has to be sacrifices with any relationship. Even if that means now your wife goes to games with you in which your buddies would have gone with you prior to meeting her. Let's not pretend everyone operates as normal with their social life once they are entrenched with a significant other.

Agree 100 percent.

Similar to BigVman I used to play the softball circuit, but luckily I started to get burnt out on the sport. After breaking the ankle for a second time I decided I'd had enough. The better half didn't gripe too much about how much I played, but got tired of the 3-4 nights a week then tournaments on weekends. I've since replaced softball with other activities many that she does participate in sparingly, but we've found a balance and that's what it's all about in any relationship.

I haven't "given up" sports for love. I've spent less time on sports to be with the woman I love because I want to. She would never force me to stop playing or watching sports because she knows I love it. I have certainly dialed it back some since I got married.

It's the give and take necessary in any relationship. It's hard to put someone ahead of yourself, but that's exactly what it takes half the time to make a relationship last. :thumb:

No I wouldn't give up sports for "love". As others have said, if the other person doesn't approve then she's not right for me. Sports have been a huge part of my life since I was in diapers and until I can no longer play, coach, watch, etc. I'm going to keep participating in them. I've had relationships in the past that that I was asked to give up or cut back on sports and I didn't change a thing for the reasons I listed. At the same time though, I've had relationships in the past where my sport participation was green lighted and they even participated.

Giving up sports more defined.

By giving up I mean watching playing coaching or anything else that goes with being a sports fan.

Duly noted. My answer has changed. It is now:

HELL NAH!!!!

I coach HS basketball. I'm a beer vendor for the Cincinnati Reds. A commissioner for a fantasy football league. I play basketball, golf, disc golf, and etc. To give up sports, is to give up my life. Just about everything I enjoy evolves around sports.

Thankfully I found me a woman who enjoys baseball, loves her Cleveland Browns, converted her to become a UK basketball fan (she was deeply sad when she realized Randle was only going to be in Lex for a year) and likes helping me spend the beer vending money.

Her ideal birthday present is tickets to the Browns vs. Bengals game or this year, a road trip to watch the Reds play in Pittsburgh. I got lucky.

I will say, that I will probably give up coaching high school basketball when I have kids, but we'll see.

Absolutely not.

I'm lucky enough to have found a woman that loves sports (outside of football, but 2 out of 3 ain't bad, right?) and enjoys watching them. Even still, I've made the conscious decision, on my own, to spend less time following them. It's not because I don't love them as much as I always have, it's because I would rather spend time with her. :idunno:

You married yet?

Will be in 5 months from yesterday....Close enough :D

No. Take me as I am or not at all.

I am not as passionate about sports as I used to be (other than the Seahawks and tennis) but thankfully my wife never tried to change me... She understood that I loved sports and never asked me to turn them off.

You can't give up coaching when you have kids. That's when it is time to lay the groundwork for their careers.

I will definitely still be coaching them in some capacity. Just not sure I'll keep up with being a volunteer coach at the high school level.
