July 9, 201412 yr Zach Price Edgar Sosa - He was on my not so good list many times, but overall I like him. Stephan Van Treese Wayne Blackshear I hated to hate Van Treese. He worked hard and was a good dude. I liked him a lot more after he and Hancock came to our school and spoke with our kids. Chane was easy to hate last year. Difficult to hate the year before. I'm so-so about Edgar Sosa. I had a class with him in college, and he attempted to be a class clown at times. It made a lot of people in class hate him. Swopshire was soft and I hated his hair.

July 10, 201412 yr I'd love to say I had some deep seeded hatred for the Cards, yet I do not. As simply a fan of college basketball, I watch Blackshear and am amazed at what he's not. And that's a shame.

July 10, 201412 yr Author G - Chris Smith - Just because he's JR Smith's brother G - T-Will - Because he calls himself T-Will for one F - Francisco Garcia - Dirty player, all bark, no bite F - Luke Hancock - Not a fan, kind of seems like a punk C - Marvin "Hands Of" Stone - The only guy to make two of these lists MVP: Lancaster Gordon - I wasn't born yet, but if I were, I'd have disliked him Honorable Mention: DeJuan Wheat Taquan Dean Kenny Payne Larry O'Bannon (Just joking, I loved all of the honorable mention guys) I had Marques Maybin on my list and was trying to look up something funny about him and to add in some kind of quip about seeing him beat up on some of UK's Team Turmoil teams, then saw the story of his accident (which I didn't know about), how he came back to Louisville after and finished his degree, and how he has a son who was a good high school football players that had articles written about him saying they hoped has his father's character and talent, etc. After reading that, he's now one of my favorite Cardinals because he's a guy who had tons of reasons to feel sorry for himself and just wallow but he doesn't seem to be doing that at all, which you have to respect the hell out of. Unless it's because his slow white boy game is better than yours. :lol2: Reason #1 - Personality on the Floor: My dislike of Hancock is that he comes off kind of arrogant and like one of those guys whose a sneaky talker on the floor. Kind of dude who'll talk some harsh stuff when no one else can hear and do it in a really sneaky way. Reason #2 - His Transfer As A Commentary: I think his transfer from George Mason rubbed me wrong too, and that's what really gets me more than anything else. Dude is talented, no doubt, but he's never going to be great. He had a script in his Junior year at Louisville that you couldn't have written better yourself if you tried, but some of the circumstances that led to it just don't seem fair considering how he just bolted George Mason scott free. I'm not a fan of guys just jumping schools when something better comes along, nor am I a fan of coaches just dumping players when someone a little better comes along. That's just a commentary on the college game, but he's the epitome of a guy who got the best out of what I don't like about the system. If a kid isn't happy at a school, if there's been a coaching change, if they just really aren't cutting it, or if it's someone making the kind of jump up that you just can't blame them for at all, then that's understandable. If you are a kid like Lucas at Baylor and your teammates are literally killing each other... you can transfer and I'll give you a pass. I'm not a fan of your Luke Hancocks, Julius Mays (I'd have given him back to whoever anyway), kids who grow up in one state, get recruited by the smaller in-state school when no one else really wants them, go there and do well, then use it as a stepping stone to a big out-of-state program that uses them as a hired gun for a year and cashes in on all the development someone else has done with them. I know Larranga went to Miami and Louisville hired Keates, but he was still a Virginia kid that got his chance after a year of prep school at George Mason, then hightailed it out. He's not the Final Four MOP at George Mason, but he's probably a hero at that school forever. To each his own, but unless the possibility of Larranga, some of the staff, or even Hancock himself leaving was brought up during his recruitment and it was understood that the whole thing was based on contingency on both ends, that either of them could be moving up or down based on their performance, etc., then I think it's kind of cheapened to see him basically sell out in a way that it appears he might have. Reading this story kind of reminds you that for both players and coaches, the college game is just a dirty business and that it'd be more equitable if something were done to harness the transfers as free agency that's going on now. July 10, 201412 yr Author To boil down the Hancock transfer, I'll borrow from what a reporter said about the typical UK fan you'll bump into in the hotel lobby of an NCAA weekend (and I'll paraphrase and would like everyone to know I'm requesting a fair amount of generosity on how I interpreted/remember his quip). "The UK fan is rational (at least until he gets some bourbon in him). You're talking to him and he has some good points. He knows and loves the game and can tell you about the school or sport's history. Then you talk some more and something seems a little off, usually when it comes to Cal or recruiting. It's like the UK fan knows very well that Cal has vacated two Final Fours and wasn't really coaching through the sanctions that hit. The UK fan knows this but is completely fine with it. It's like the guy is perfectly fine that he's made a deal with the devil. He gets to see his team win and live in the moment, no matter how that might be viewed later or what sanctions may come. Not only that, the UK fan isn't even bothered by their deal with the devil and just accepts it as an inevitable part of the game. The worst part about it is... he is usually going to be right about it." I'll post the article if I can find it, but thought it was pretty funny, even as a UK fan because it's so true. Anyway, that deal with the devil concept is kind of how I look at a guy like Hancock leaving George Mason to follow his high school/AAU/shoe company connect to the new school where he'll go from being the in-state kid that no one thought could who becomes the rising mid-major's best player to the 2nd or 3rd guy off of Louisville's bench. And he'll get a ring and shine in the biggest game of the year while he's doing it. It's like Hancock and Cal are guys fans can be unabashed and completely unapologetic about... but they'll still be right.
