While grilling out this evening my neighbor told me they had a 4 foot copperhead in their rock ledge in the back and she had babies. They saw the copperhead and 3-4 babies. She said it was a western copperhead.

 

She asked how to get them removed or taken care of and I told her I really didn't know, but I would call an exterminator.

 

I asked if she was really sure and she said yes. She said the can have as many as 10-11 babies and they had also gotten in her garage but her husband chased it out of there.

 

I am not very comfortable, to say the least.

 

How do you take care of this? Does anyone know?

I killed one about a month or so ago at a friends house while helping them weedeat. It was in the creek beside their house. About 2 foot long and huge round ways. about a week or so later, my same friend killed one on the road right in front of their house. Snakes are gonna be aggressive this year, seen pictures on facebook of snakes right in front of people's doors and windows. I will say if their's a black snake around, don't kill it. It will kill all the poisonous snakes.

Well I'm glad I don't have a problem with copperheads. We do have slight situation with the amount of garter snakes in my backyard though. My dog kills one about ever week.

 

She also kills rodents and other stuff that I don't want in my yard, so I'm not going to stop her when it comes to snakes.

There are 4 types venomous snakes in Kentucky. Copperhead, Timber Rattlesnake, Water Moccasin, and the pigmy rattlesnake in western KY.

Depends on what your black snake is. You get a Black Racer or a Rat Snake and it's not killing too many other snakes. A Black Kingsnake on the other hand will eat a lot of them. But, snakes kill and eat so many pests that your best course is just to leave them alone regardless.

Back about '97 when I was doing electrical work, me and the boy working for me were putting in a mobile home service. We had done the digging the day before and measured everything. When and got the materials and were going to start on it the first thing in the morning. We rolled in and got out of the truck and started getting everything set up, tools out, power cords ran, that sort of thing. For some reason I decided to look at the ditch. I kept a pistol in the truck just for snakes and varmints (mainly snakes). I went to the truck and got the pistol, went to the ditch and fired twice. The boy said "Copperhead?" and I said "Yes, both of them." Not another word was said. We just picked everything up and left.

I'll take them all in my yard. Rodent slayers...

As long as they stay away from my doors and NEVER EVER enter my home, I don't mind them. But they creep me out and scare me and if I ever saw one in my home, I'd have a panic attack and feel paranoid about it forever more.

My 2 dogs do a pretty good job of that. They are both rodent detectors and have killed a ton of moles and field mice.

Can't stand snakes but hate rodents more.
