Adam Dunn Passes Yaz

If Dunn had any work ethic, he could have been one of the best players in the last decade.

Actually, Dunn has two skills - HR and Walks. Despite his low batting average, his career OBP is .366. According to baseball-reference.com, the player he is most similar to at age 33 is HOF'er Harmon Killebrew. Every clean player with more than 500 career home runs is in the Hall of Fame. The clean, Hall of Fame eligible player with the most HR's who isn't in is Fred McGriff with 493 HR's.

I think Dunn and Griffey were clean too, but why is everyone acting like it's a sure thing? I would bet all my money that Thome wasn't clean. Writers have to get over the PED thing. Hell MLB approved A-Rod taking some PED's according to a report out last week.

The Sox need to get rid of him. Teams seem to do better once he has moved on... Well maybe not AZ. They were good when he showed up. Then they weren't...

How great would it be if the Reds got him back with Votto being out a while? He has to be as good as Bruce defensively at 1B.

Hes making 15 mil

I haven't looked in years but I believe many of his offensive stats compare favorably to Johnny Bench, my favorite all time Red.

There goes that darn alert again. Johnny Bench? Seriously?

Why? He can DH, hit against righties only, make $8-10 per, and hit 25 bombs for another 5 years. Why not? He did an interview recently in Chicago where he said his next deal, the only thing that matters is going to a team where he can win -- it clearly eats him up that he hasn't been on a team (his fault or otherwise) that has made the post-season. My hunch is he has one Beltran-esque post-season series at some point and the entire narrative on him flips nearly overnight.

He'd be the anorexic poster child if that was the case

Bench: .267/.342/.817 slash line with 389 career HRs, 1,376 RBI, and 2,048 Hits. Winner of ROY, 14 time AS, 10 GGs, 2 MVPs

Dunn: .238/.366/.859 slash line with 453 career HRs, 1,138 RBI, 1,593 Hits. Winner of 0 awards, 2 time AS, 0 top 20 MVP finishes.

Not even close IMO.

It's very close IMO when you look at all offensive stats and read my statement. On base, slugging, home runs all favor Dunn. Runs are a wash. Strikeouts, average, RBIs all favor Bench. I simply said that many of Dunn's offensive stats compare favorably to Bench's, which they do. Don't read anything more into the comment as Bench obviously is an all time great and Dunn is not.

Nope. I'm guessing you're correct. Looking up stats to substantiate a comparison between Dunn and Bench is a waste of time. And I'm really not that busy right now...

Just thought people might be surprised on the offensive stats. I know I was when my son first brought them up to me since he knew I was a huge Bench fan. Bench obviously brought more to the game than those particular stats.

I think Dale Murphy should be a Hall of Famer, personally. I think Dunn will be, as well.

I don't care what his useless statistic of a batting average is. If the guy its 600 HR's, cleanly. He's a LOCK!
