Ozzie Smith got in and he was ONLY good at one thing, doing flips on the field. If Ozzie gets in for being an entertainer, then anyone is an option.

I think Dale Murphy should be a Hall of Famer, personally. I think Dunn will be, as well.

Except that he is at 453 and only 34. Let's say he hits 12 more this year (conservative, you'd have to agree), so he is at 465 at age 34. 23 a year for 6 years and he is there. I don't think it is likely, but it is most assuredly possible.

Except for the fact that he's one of the most durable players in the history of the game and he's still popping dingers...as a DH there's no reason to suggest he couldn't be able to do it until he's 40. What if he signs in Colorado and gets to 650? lol

I never said he couldn't, but it's very unlikely IMO. I think 12 more this year is being very generous. He's only got 13. I don't see any chance he plays for another 6 seasons. I think 2-3 is the likeliest scenario, and he ends up somewhere in the 500-525 range.

Definitely durable, I just don't think he cares enough to play that long. He could hit 700 HRs and I'd struggle to call him a HOF'er. When I think of Hall of Fame, I think of elite players. Dunn has never been elite.

People have been saying he doesn't care forever. I don't buy it. He has no reason to still be playing and he is. He's one of the most successful off the field players in the game with solid investments. He's playing b/c he loves it,even if his demeanor doesn't show it.

Based on what I saw him do when he was in Cincinnati and stories I've heard from others who've seen him out at bars since he's left here.

 

Maybe he has changed, I don't know. I don't particularly care either. My opinion of him will never change.

The long and the short of his numbers:

 

Dunn has six seasons in which he hit at least 40 homers. Only 12 players in history have done that. Guess what? The other 11 all have at least 500 homers. If we move the goalposts back to 38-homer seasons, Dunn has accomplished that eight times. Only Hank Aaron (11), Babe Ruth (11), Rafael Palmeiro (nine) and Harmon Killebrew (nine) did it more times. A-Rod, Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire also did it eight times.

Lets also keep in mind that his 366 OBP is higher than Ichiro Suzuki's and for a long time Dunn's OBP was higher than Derek Jeter's. As far as his defense, was it really that awful? Did we ever lose a game because of his defense? I know he was not fast and did not have a good arm, but he caught everything that was hit to him.

 

Except for opening day in like 2005 where he did pirouettes in left field trying to catch a ball, I cannot think of any real blunders he made except not getting to balls that other Left fielders may have gotten to.
