Of course he'll fight them. He's already got his chief replaced and more heads rolled, but he couldn't just go quietly like everyone else who was effected by his decision.

 

Dude seems like a moron and wouldn't have gotten this much rope but for his Dad being so respected, now he's going to thank the university for it by fighting it and keeping them in the news.

So in essence they are calling a double foul?

 

She got 9 months probation a misdemeanor conviction and is a campus hero for resisting arrest and now he get's fired and loses his career for making the arrest.

Joker you said that the Chief took reassignment and role with the "Department's video surveillance team"...that's kind of minimizing his new roll at the university and makes it sound like he's just sitting watching monitors all day like on Mall Cop. He is the Executive Director of University Security Initiatives.

 

Pickens’ duties in this new role will include overseeing expansion of the university’s video security system and other emerging public safety technologies, assisting the Office of Emergency Preparedness in ensuring that ASU is positioned for effective emergency response and recovery, and leading security planning for the Sun Devil Stadium project.

When are people going to acknowledge that if you are stopped and told to do something. YOU can't fight back and act aggressive yourself by resisting OR you can expect to be treated the way she was treated. I do not care how educated she is, in this incident she did not use here education to here advantage, instead she acted inappropriately and was treated accordingly. People have to understand that the police are looking out for ALL safety including their own and the suspects. She acted like a drunk in a bar being dealt with by bouncers. You can't kick a police officer and think it is all okay.

Again... closed street that she's "jaywalking" on. 911 call from a pedestrian talking about how aggressive the officer is being. Whole video isn't even shown. ASU asks for an FBI review because of the public backlash. Kid whose Dad is probably the only reason he had the job is fired. Woman could probably sue and win.

 

Treated like her is probably going to mean a fat civil suit. Kid is going to have his Eastern Arizona U Crim Justice degree and a firing that makes him practically unemployable in law enforcement going forward, and there's a good chance he'll be looking at paying out a suit or at least spending a lot to fight it.

I say let everybody do whatever the hell they want to do anytime. Just don't call police when things aren't going "your way". The police won't want to come quickly or do anything but stand there and watch. (Complete sarcasm)

Yea... that's a great attitude! How about this-- ASU is a fairly well regarded public research university. Their Provost supported Ore. Why don't we just ignore all of them, their opinions too? Let's do it right down to the universities fools like those run. You know... those liberal colleges that teach people who perform surgeries, become engineers, develop new technologies, and the professors who do it. You should probably share that with them too, maybe they wouldn't want to do their job for you either.

 

I think the Provost and whole university is just out to get him. I'm sure he'll land on his feet and the whole university that's turned it's back on him will never be the same without him, all those out-of-state thugs paying $20K a year on tuition alone to be there and all.

A little background on this "Goof" or "Moron" as you call him...

 

The following information was obtained from those who know and work with him. Ferrin has been ordered to sit at home and been “gagged” by University officials from speaking for himself.

 

Ferrin grew up wanting to be a cop like his dad. At 12, he had his own lawn mowing business. He spent 10 years as a Boy Scout and earned the Eagle Scout Award. His Eagle Scout project was organizing and gathering together 50 volunteers to attack Tempe’s serious graffiti problem in a gang-ridden neighborhood. During his 10 years in the Scouts he also served four years with the Mesa Police Explorers, where he was presented with the Prudential Spirit of Service Award for his dedication and volunteerism.

 

In high school, he worked at a local bank in an internship program. After high school, he used his own savings to pay part of the costs for his Church of Latter-day Saints mission. He served two-years in Chile where he not only held a leadership position among his fellow missionaries, he was called upon to work with the U. S. Air Force as a translator in the massive 8.8 earthquake relief efforts in 2010.

 

Following his mission he worked full-time and volunteered at the Tempe Police Department where he was again recognized for his service and presented the Presidential Service Award.

 

He was hired by ASU Police in 2011 to work in communications. Six months later after passing a series of examinations including a psychological evaluation, polygraph test and background investigation he was selected to attend the police academy. He attended the same five-month police academy officers from throughout the Valley attend, including Tempe officers. He then completed an equally long field-training program before being assigned to patrol duties. Because of his Spanish speaking and cultural skills, his fellow ASU officers and Tempe police called upon him often to assist in translations and investigations.

 

Since joining the ASU PD, his volunteerism has continued with the W. Steven Martin Toy Drive at Christmas and the annual Scottsdale Police Department’s “Shop with a Cop” program. He has a wife, a child and a baby on the way.

 

Years of caring and service aren’t the character traits of a badge-heavy police officer that abuses someone during an arrest.

 

The portrayal of Ferrin as a thug and out of control rogue cop is far cry from who he really is and his lengthy record of service and compassion as a Boy Scout, LDS Missionary, Tempe police volunteer, dedicated ASU police officer, husband and father.

You've mentioned his dad a couple of times, does he have some high position at ASU or in ASUPD? I thought he was just a retired Tempe Police Officer.

The Officer went through the same academy and training as Tempe PD Officers go through, Joker seems to think very little of Campus Police. I think because he has no respect for a Criminal Justice Degree. He must think Campus Police is just a work study program of some sort, which it is not.

I mean, I'm sure she'd trade his situation-- unemployment, a firing, and some degree from a glorified community college-- for her profession, tenure & university's siding with her, and Doctorate from a top 25 public. I mean, who wouldn't? He's campus PD by 25 for God's sake! Oh wait, he's not even got that now. She's employed, he's the person no one wants to employ. Kid could end up getting sued for plenty of years worth of his almighty campus PD salary, nothing worse is happening to her. Understand?

 

Kid got what was coming to him for trying to hit her and others with trumped up charges and I'm sure they've found cause to fire him-- remember this isn't his first controversy.

 

Even if he gets back on, what's he gained? It's obvious the department and university doesn't want him. I'd imagine that being the guy that your superiors and primary employer don't want is going to be really fun-- and that's best case scenario for him.

 

Kid screwed up and is expendable. It happens. Get over it. If he wanted to make decisions for the university like Provost who criticized him, then he could have started by getting his Doctorate like Ms. Ore and worked his way up I guess. University Provost, a Judge, plenty of people a lot more accomplished than him-- they've all sided with her. If you don't like it, fine, but at the end of the day, it's their decision to make, and they've earned making it. That's how stuff works. Sorry.

 

If nothing else dude is just outright stupid for not seeing what he was walking into the whole time. I don't see what's so hard to understand about the reality of that.
