May want to slow down on where to place the regional banner at in the gym. Most schools have freshman girls that are very good play at the junior varsity or varsity level. Some schools even have 8th and 7th graders just doing varsity. I know SK had several girls on the jv or varsity team, and didn't even play freshman at all. I am not saying that the Sophmore class isn't talented, but beating up, especially on smaller schools freshman teams, does mean that this team is going to dominate the region. Time will tell the next few years how this class turns out.

My post was not to slam the talent or the Grant County program or other freshman teams. Just girls sports are much different than boys that a lot of freshman girls play up on jv or varsity. It is hard to predict if a successful freshman team will relate to winning at the varsity level. Its all good.

I also agree that top teams can't be predicted based off of what they did in middle school or freshmen!! There are some extremely talented young players throughout the state that can have multiple colleges scouting but when it comes down to team championships I think some people get too caught up with one or 2 talented players & not the team as a whole!! Michael Jordan himself quoted "Talent wins games, but Teamwork wins Championships!" In some weaker regions, a standout player may lead her team to State, but very seldom will you find that type of team winning State!! Most of the time (not always) a top team will have their 1 or 2 stars, but it takes 5 players on the court creating & executing plays as a team to truly be considered a "Top" team!! That takes years of experience at the Varsity level especially in a region loaded like the 9th Region!! I think people need to look closer to the bench of these teams & then decide who the Top Team is, because if the refs call like they did last season those players are the ones to make or break a team!!!

You make a valid point.. it is crazy sometimes to watch how tight refs call high school games, but then a.lot of times you see the same refs calling the AAU games and they let them basically beat each other to death! Either way the refs should never dictate the outcome. But sometimes they do and it is the bench players that determine the outcome.

Question for any GC fan out there. Who runs the point now that Martin is moved to NDA? Macey Wright?

If Walton can find a girl to step up and run the point they will be in the top 2 or 3 of the 8th region.

SK will have to prove themselves with the young talent and transfer that they have coming in first but will probably be there in the end of the season. Shelby has to get the nod at #1 for now.

Will be a HUGE question mark for them. Point guard by committee will be hard to do.

I will agree with that. I watched Macey play a couple of games over the summer with Shining Star and she played very well. I know that one game she had around 28 so.

Thoughts so far - GRC should win the 10th running away. IMO the new point guard at SK makes them the favorite in the 8th just because its depleted of its top talent although would not be surprised if Anderson Co. makes noise because of its style. The 9th has a lot of unanswered questions but I think we can agree HC and Highlands are neck in neck at the top with some of the usual suspects (NCC, NDA, Boone Co. w/Schweitzer) waiting in the wings. We also have power struggles in the 4th with Glasgow and Allen Co.-Scottsville and the 6th with North Bullitt and Bullitt East trying to unseat Butler. And what I love about this whole thing is that we will always have the Meade Countys of the world who upend one or more of these teams in the regional tourney.

Shelby Co. looked very strong in the 8th region tournament and has everybody back, at least that is my understanding. I agree with you that the young talent SK will put on the court is extraordinary, and the coaching staff of Stowers, Olmstead and Wedeline is up there with any staff in the state, but I think you may be expecting too much too fast. Young teams, even talented, can win by 30 one night, and lose by 20 the next night. I would expect some losses, even bad losses, with a team that is this young. At least early in the season.
