I'm not real confident in that pick. Really think it's a bit of a toss up. Was just thinking with GRC losing their leader at the point, as well as that young core group of girls at Mason getting more experienced and stronger, thought it might give them the upper hand.

GRC will miss Lexus Graham, but we have other capable girls to fill her role. GRC has the best player in the region in Sandra Skinner. along with Anderson and Taylor returning. They are coming off a final 4 spot in last years State tourney and only graduated 2 starters. We will have 6'3 Elizabeth Hardiman that saw lots of action last year as a 8th grader to replace Mattie Hamlin. Plus they have the experience that Mason does not have. Just don't see Mason picked over GRC pre-season. I don't even see it as a toss up IMO.

Thoughts so far - GRC should win the 10th running away. IMO the new point guard at SK makes them the favorite in the 8th just because its depleted of its top talent although would not be surprised if Anderson Co. makes noise because of its style. The 9th has a lot of unanswered questions but I think we can agree HC and Highlands are neck in neck at the top with some of the usual suspects (NCC, NDA, Boone Co. w/Schweitzer) waiting in the wings. We also have power struggles in the 4th with Glasgow and Allen Co.-Scottsville and the 6th with North Bullitt and Bullitt East trying to unseat Butler. And what I love about this whole thing is that we will always have the Meade Countys of the world who upend one or more of these teams in the regional tourney.

Was just referring to the fact that Goldie is much more knowledgable on GRC from top to bottom than I am.

Losing Graham will hurt badly. Mason has a great group of rising Soph who I think will push them over the top. In the end if GRC wins the region, it won't be a runaway.

Who did SK get ? I think both Shelby Co and Trimble Co could be some of the tallest teams in the region this year - maybe ever! Not sure about the guard play at Shelby though. Trimble could have one of the best teams since the 80"s. I think they could be the favorite in the 29th district and could be a VERY competitive team in the region.

I'm curious about why SK also!!! Also curious how this transferring back & forth in high school works? I'd be a little uneasy as a coach that somehow my team would get looked at for recruiting violations. I understand transferring if moving or going from private school to public school in district, but from what I've heard that isn't the case here!! Just curious!!

As for 9th Region, I don't think there will be a clearly dominate team again this season. I think there are too many teams that could make a valid argument on why their team is #1. Highlands, Holy Cross & Boone all have experienced & talented players returning, but Conner, Ryle & Dixie could shake things up also. Any which way you look at it, 9th Region will continue be one of the most talented Regions in KY!

2) Henderson Co.

3) Owensboro Catholic

4) Allen Co. Scottsville

5) E-Town

6) Butler

7) One of the tougher ones - could go either way between Sacred Heart and Ballard, I'll give the edge to Sacred Heart

8) Simon Kenton

9) Again, tough, but I'd have to go Highlands over Holy Cross as of today. Highlands has more experience and better versatility and HC has to work a new player into the system that the whole thing will hinge on.

10) GRC

11) Lafayette

12) Mercer Co

13) Bell Co.

14) Powell Co.

15) Shelby Valley

16) Toss up between East Carter and Ashland. I'll give the edge to returning champ Ashland.

 

In the 7th region I think you will hear a lot from the Male bulldogs. They are be dark horse to win the region. It will be between Male, Sacred heart, and Manual.
