June 13, 201412 yr This would be a great time to give incentives to the Kurds to cause havoc in Northern Iraq, but then you get the wrath of Turkey when the Kurds there increase their fight for independence. They're doing fine on their own. No need to get further involved there. They just took over Kirkuk and will undoubtedly start deriving some oil revenues to help their cause. My goodness it's a disaster over there.
June 13, 201412 yr Iraq was controlled until our invasion. I would add that to the list. Interesting thing is, all the countries listed above had the support of the United States in the last twenty years or so.

I think they've got all the incentive they need right now. Their military/defense force is clearly more capable than the Iraqi army. They are going to reclaim Kirkuk, ostensibly as party of Kurdistan, and could take Mosul from ISIS if they wanted to. Apparently Maliki is not interested in restructuring the oil deal, and no one would accuse him of being a smart or capable leader, but the Kurds have a lot of bargaining chips right now.

You try to fill a power vaccuum w/ a puppet government....it'll never work. The middle east respects powerful men only. Politicians are way down the totem pool. I don't understand why our government has never accepted that, beyond, you know, keeping OPEC under control. For 30 years, Iraq was ruled by the MINORITY PARTY, through brutal force and coeersion. We open Panora's Box and believe that we could close it again and latch it with a rubber band. On top of all of this, Colin Powell (who should have become the first African American President) and Condeleeza Rice destroyed their career when they discussed all of the WMD that Hussein had rolling around the country.

June 13, 201412 yr This country could only be ruled by a sadistic dictator that would torture and murder his own people. However we eliminated him because that scared the he'll out of us. This is what you are left with. The Sunni's, Shiites and Kurds are too different for them to live as a democratic society and because of that it's the perfect opportunity for radical groups to set up shop.

Just float over a nuclear missile to someplace in Iraq and hope that makes everything better? And how many more enemies do you create operating that way? Is that our new modus operandi as a nation? Wholesale slaughter of everyone we can find that might be a problem because we can't think of anything better? Scipio burned Carthage to the ground and salted the Earth. Rome still fell and was under assault from weaker opponents every single day of its centuries of hegemony despite cruelty and overwhelming force. True but it did fix that Carthage problem.

That is Obama Rule #2, which is right after Obama Rule #1: never vote yes or no if you can vote present. June 14, 201412 yr Shiite's and Sunni's don't like each other. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." What happens when both of the other groups are considered your enemy? I just find it humorous that Iran could potentially be the last line of defense in protecting and securing the US embassy in Iraq.
