June 5, 201412 yr They did have the shift on. If they did then Bruce is too selfish and Price has no back bone. I lose all respect for Jay Bruce. He could have easily put the tying run on second and started a rally in the 8th with Meso coming up. I know he eventually struck out, but you have to put your team in the best position to win. Instead, he strikes out weakly. That is just terrible.
June 5, 201412 yr Bruce had no chance of doing anything against the lefty. He was clueless up there. I'm certain he couldn't have even put down a bunt. If that is the excuse the Reds use, then they are truly pathetic!
June 5, 201412 yr Tough loss. I guess Hamilton has the green light no matter the situation. Hopefully that changes. I think I saw a tweet from someone after the game, maybe CTrent, saying that Price talked to him about running in that situation.
June 5, 201412 yr Agree with most of your post, the bolded is absolutely false. He's 22/29. That is awful for someone with world class speed. There were people that expected him to be 90%. He's 75%.

He does, and rightfully so, have the green light whenever he wants. Would be buffoonery to not give a guy with his ability to wreck havoc on the base paths freedom.

Wow, for an unabashed stat guy, I can't believe you are saying that. Steals 3 out of every 4 on a team that simply can't move runners along and your griping. Classic. And anyone with a brain knows he's not stealing 90% and I don't recall it ever being posted here.
June 5, 201412 yr Have you ever seen Bruce attempt to bunt before? If you had, you'd realize why he didn't try it. Someone with his athletic ability should be able to bunt when he has a wide open left side of the infield. If not, he needs to go back to AAA until he can do it. Pathetic excuse.

Pathetic excuse. :banghead: Brilliant idea. Let's send a guy who's averaged 30+ HR and 85-90 RBI over the past 3 seasons on an offensively challenged team down to AAA so he can learn to bunt for the 1-2 times a year the situation warrants it. :lol2:

June 5, 201412 yr Author Brilliant idea. Lets weakly strike out instead of doing something constructive for your team to win. :lol2: He tries to bunt and doesn't get it down (which is almost assuredly the end result), you've just taken the bat out of the hands of a guy that can put you in front with one swing of the bat. So he tries to bunt and fails, and strikes out, or he doesn't try to bunt and strikes out. You've still got runner at 1st, 1 out either way. Nothing constructive has been done either way.
June 5, 201412 yr Author The numbers also say you've only very marginally increased your chances of scoring if you successfully sacrifice there. A runner on 1st base with no outs scores 43% of the time. A runner on 2nd base with one out scores only 45% of the time. Have you really made a difference? :idunno:
