Just wanted to add to my previous post, I do think that there is a real anti-private and anti-Catholic school bias amongst some fans across the State, but that isn't a part of what I am referring to in the above. That kind of sentiment is unfortunately going to be there regardless. I was just making the point that I don't consider Trinity any different than I do many of the other schools who are more often mentioned when the topics of transfers comes up. And again, I see nothing wrong with transfers in general.

I know you do, and there wasn't anyone in particular I was meaning when I was talking about the comments. It just seemed like I got a lot of general heat last year for "calling out" Trinity, but this is the second year in a row when they've at least been a player in the sweepstakes for a very talented out of state transfer. I'm starting to see a pattern and it isn't confined to the city of Louisville.

 

Trinity is playing the big kid's game now, so I'm not going to be very sympathetic to the arguments of supporters if they play the "we're a private and everyone hates on us, but look at a school like Ballard and find out how many kids actually grew up in their district" argument that you'll inevitably hear each winter.

 

I don't really care if Trinity goes to another continent and gets a team full of players who end up playing D1, but I don't want hear them play their sad song and fiddle about their perception and how other schools are just as bad or worse, yet don't receive the kind of criticism they do.

There were two schools in Kentucky that were mentioned with Long, Trinity and Scott County. I don't know how it gets to that point without at least some involvement by someone associated with the school. This is exactly the kind of thing that bothers me about Trinity. Long didn't go, eh, never wanted him, never had any interest.

 

I'm not doubting that Trinity said "thanks, but no thanks" at some point, but I'm not sure how it advances to the point that major newspapers like the Lexington Herald are coming up with the names of two schools for him without something more than an approach by what you call a "handler" and them immediately being told no. Even if they immediately told him no, doesn't it kind of hint to you that something might be amiss if they are one of the first places even being approached by "handlers"?

 

Again, I don't really care that Trinity gets kids who transfer in. I don't care if they even get financial help with the costs of attendance to go there (and not saying that Trinity violates any rules, just saying that I'd rather see a talented kid end up there and have an opportunity to get a great education than winding up at some basketball "academy" that is firmly in the NCAA Clearinghouse's crosshairs). I just wish there were more of an attitude that, "we have a good basketball team that is attractive to kids and offer a great learning environment, it's part of the game" as opposed to a tone that comes off as "how could you even insinuate...".

 

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it's fair to look at Trinity's position in the grand scheme of things and say that they were in the "sweepstakes".

D Angelo didn't start nor did he come in with the first substitutions. Thienieman is lighting it up with 12 of the 17. 3-4 from the perimeter.

Spalding finished the half with 15 points 8 rebounds 3 blocks 3 steals and 2 assists. Thienieman has about 17.

The transfer definitely has some skill and also some luck. On one occasion he lost a layup that Raymond caught an made it look like an alley oop and then another time he tried to throw an alley oop and it went in the basket. He didn't look comfortable out there, he looked kind of nervous. He can shoot the ball well and attack the basket. But the way he moves lacks fluidity.

I'm almost positive Christian finished with 20 and Spalding 25 pts 11 rebounds 4 blocks 3 steals and 2 assist. He also had 1 extreme crowd pleaser.

I think trinity won like 103 to 66. Lex cath had two players that absolutely could fill it up. They probably accounted for 50 of the team's 66. Cov Cath was well coached and played great team ball. T was without Stafford and knight-golf. T also will need to find a point guard because there is currently none.

I don't think it matters at all. I'm one of the people who was taking up for Cordia more often than not last year.

 

I just think that with moves like this, Trinity doesn't have any more of a defense than Scott County with Long, and people were going nuts over that.

 

Last year, I thought I took some heat over fair statements about Trinity, and these kind of moves are just further proof of what I was trying to say.

 

Look at your same statement and replace 'Trinity' with 'Scott County', 'Mississippi' with 'North Carolina' and 'Louisville' with 'Georgetown'. Oh yea... Long was rumored to have been "considering" Trinity last season anyway, so that's not much of a jump.

 

It seems like when a good athlete comes to Trinity, it has to be because of the great education, reputation, etc. and never just because they have a great athletics program as well. Let's call it is what it is.

 

I agree w/u joker that some ppl may have had a bigger problem had it been Scott County and some would have even and have bashed them for this kind of thing. I am not one of those who has bashed them. Not being from Ky I don't know as much about these types of things. Personally from what I do know I can see a player transferring from out of state to a Scott County or Trinity if they are moving to Ky, because those are 2 top programs with great coaches. Out of state transfers have never really bothered me personally. The problem we have here in Fl, is the in state mainly public to private school transfers. Many coaches work with a team for 3-4 years and have them on the verge of possibly winning a state title and 2 of their guys transfer to the local private school because they played AAU with their new teammates and/or to keep from having to pass/or take the FCAT test to be able to graduate.

I know it is summer and it is early, but it sounds like CC won't fall too very far down from where they were this past season. I am sure they'll have a drop off, but it doesn't sound like it is a large one from this, but you never know.

Will Heppler, Grant Romes, Cooper Theobald, Schumate, and the rest of a JV unit that won the region title. They'll be solid this year, but unless Bo Schuh takes a big leap forward (which he is certainly capable of), I think they are solidly behind NewCath in the 9th.

 

I'd guess the starting 5 looks like this: Cooper / CVH / Grant / Bo / Will (certainly could be wrong, but that would be my best guess).

IMO, I think it will be more of a tossup. I believe that Bo will be able to take Drew away from the basket enough that if Drew doesnt come out he can hit the three and if he does come out CVH and Cooper can drive to the basket. Grant is super solid too. Its a cant miss game when these two get together.
