Trinity (Louisville) 2014/2015

Featured Replies

If looks like the City of Palms Tournament conflicts date-wise with the King of the Bluegrass.

Trinity's tournaments/"classics" this season will be:

Dec. 6:

Buckeye Elite Event - Huntington, WV playing Garfield Heights, OH

Dec. 18-22:

City of Palms in Ft. Myers, FL.

Dec. 26-30:

Lexington Holiday Tournament at Lexington Catholic

Jan. 12-17:

Louisville Invitation Tournament

Jan. 24:

Joe B. Hall Classic at Montgomery County versus Holmes

They are scheduled to play three 9th Region teams (Covington Catholic, Holmes and Newport Central Catholic).

Isn't City of Palms also sometimes televised by ESPN? Thought I have seen it on there the past few years...

What's the field looking like this year?

I know 11 of 16 is a high clip, but lots of schools have a ton of state winners too. Texas has 6 state champions... and those are just the public schools.

Actually they had 11 state champions including the participants in the Sunshine Series games (teams involved playing only 1 game from Fl.&various southern states normally) so it was more like 11 of 24 teams that won state titles. That being said the state titles being won by most are at the highest level or largest class in their particular state and therefore the most difficult to attain. I try to go down each year (8 hour drive) as the teams are phenomenal for the hs level. I also use it as a learning tool to see how various coaches coach their teams at such a high level (some are outstanding and some not so much just talented). I look forward to seeing how Trinity does this coming year as they are always fun to watch and I always learn something watching Coach Szabo's teams.

For several years this tourney was on ESPN or one of their networks but hasn't been for at least the past 2 years unfortunately. Not sure why it isn't on some network or at least online as I have had that discussion with one of the persons who runs it, but they don't seem overly interested in worrying about it, mainly I guess because they sell out each and every night and are normally looked at as the best high school Christmas tourney in the country overall. From what I have seen it would be hard to argue that point, but I would still like to see it on TV or at least online somewhere.

Joker, I know you've touched on that topic several times, but does anyone really care? I don't get the fascination with worrying about a mythical national ranking.

Additionally, if anyone is looking for me on 12/12, I'll be in Louisville.

I do because it's something extra for the kids when we do nostalgia posts like "best state championship teams" and it's something that raises the profile of Kentucky basketball as a whole. I'm sure that Trinity's football team finishing #1 overall in the nation was a HUGE deal for them, even though it was a "mythical" ranking.

Disappointing. National exposure is good for players and the school alike, but seeing a team chase the Louisville Treble -- King of the Bluegrass, LIT, 6th or 7th Region Title -- is one of those things I really like and Trinity will definitely be in a position to pull it off this year.

Fairdale, KY or Ft. Myers, FL. The Florida folks do an outstanding job helping cover travel expenses. Fairdale does too. Trinity would have accepted an invitation to the KOB if not for the City of Palms.

Gotcha. Now that you mention it, it seems like I do remember seeing part of the event on ESPN. Would be huge for Trinity in terms of profile and ranking if it were televised.

Yes they are both GREAT tournaments. Getting an invitation to the COP is harder for Trinity than the KOB and that is saying absolutely nothing negative about the KOB I assure you. Trinity has a very good program that from time to time will be good enough to go to Ft Myers, but they will have good enough teams other years to be invited to the KOB, but not quite good enough to be invited to COP. The last time they went to FM they ended up with a state title. National ranking or not I am quite sure they'll take a repeat of that. Please know too that I reiterate I am taking nothing from the KOB. I would love to ever have a team good enough to play in the KOB. Again looking forward to watching them play!!!

Don't get me wrong, I totally understand why you go to COP. I'm just disappointed Trinity won't be chasing that Treble. It's a pretty outstanding list of teams that have even captured two of the three in a season.

I certainly understand and that would be a tremendous accomplishment and something that this team is certainly capable of. Wish there was a way they could do both. I wish the COP & KOB were at different times so that I someday could possibly attend the KOB like I do the COP.

Dude...I'm just happy a Trinity basketball preview thread has more than the opening post! Look how far we've come in the last few years! We're closing in on a whole 2 pages of preseason posts about Trinity basketball, and some of them are even from non-Trinity posters! :D

I'll be glad when this upcoming season is over.

I can certainly appreciate how hard these years have been for you.

Levitch picked up an offer from UNC-Greensboro.

He had offers this week from Delaware and Marist.

Thanks Clyde-- great updates, as always.

Smh. I even travel to watch that green team play, it's a shame I get excited when they win.
