RockNation, I agree with you. Since 2010 X has been a bit above average. They have taken baby steps to adjust what they do, but they just can't seem to get it clicking together.

 

Wolford causes me great anxiety because I'm not sold that he knows exactly how to coach a high school team. I will be honest, I drank about half of the Kool-aid and after what I saw/read last year I was dead wrong. Can he "turn it around", yes, but he better get coaches he believes in to help him get his philosophy across.

 

I will say this, this group of seniors at X beat T as freshmen. I don't thnk that means much, but when an X football team hasn't beaten T in a long time at level I'll take what I can get.

 

I don't think there's any doubt Wolford knows football and knows how to sell kids on X...I think his main priorities for this year should be developing the talent they have to build his depth and to instill a core discipline that Glaser's teams always seemed to display...He has had solid kids like Rowan, Houk and McCormick and will continue to get more...that's just how it is over there...

 

Honestly though, Im not sure Wolford is really capable of doing this. It seems more and more he is placing coaches on his staff as favors to get the kids and is disregarding the fact that they need to be quality coaches first. I'm not going to bore anyone with what Trinity has on their coaching staff, other than Beatty has always spoke very highly of his staff and that "one good coach should equal 10 great players" if they're doing their job. Actual football coaching must be a priority there for the Tigers to regain what they had...I know it is a priority to keep Tigers in the fold, but it doesn't look good with Glaser taking constant shots at the current administration and seemingly cutting off the pipeline of alumni that could take these jobs...

 

With the constant turnover in the infancy of his staff, coupled with his outside issues now, Wolford seems destined to be swallowed up by the job he may or may not have even wanted in the first place...It is good for football when St. X is a contender, but we may be seeing the "Kragthorpe Years" for the Tigers...

As did St. Xavier. Remember, St. Xavier never truly threatened Trinity in their game last season. The score was 29-17 and Trinity outgained St Xavier in pass and run yardage 358-207. As I recall, it was a clean sweep for the Rocks at all three levels.

Is it June or December? How about giving Coach Wolford and the Tigers at least until September before critiquing the team? Between the Trinity fans, who should have no significance to true X fans, and the Glaser apologists, who are forgetting the frustration of his regime, Coach is dealing with two factions that are trying to undermine him before year two. It's ridiculous! Coach Wolford is, and always has been committed to St. Xavier. He will win there, and more importantly, do it the right way. Despite what many hope, St. X isn't going anywhere.

New defensive coordinator is Bart Bruner. Started at X in '04 and stayed there for a few years before becoming the head coach at Nelson Co. Came back to X in '09 I believe.

 

Not sure about the offensive coordinator.

New strength coach, Joe Tronzo. X alum.

 

Tronzo will do a great job with all sports, not just football.

Played them last year week 10. Beat them in closing seconds. They have a good passing system -- QB from last year was very effective hitting receivers if standing in pocket but also as good at finding 'hot-receiver' when pressure was sent as any I've seen (really puts you in a quandary). Not sure who'll play QB there this year but I know they have two stud receivers returning. Very rarely ran the ball--may have had best RB hurt vs. us.
