As a UK football fan, WKU doesn't scare me. Nor does UL. Strong put together some pretty good teams with questionable recruiting (it's documented so don't bash too much). Will Petrino be able to keep the Dade County connection open and get those Miami kids without the benefit of their 'special' recruiter? Only time will tell.

While I agree UK should be able to leap frog WKU, I think UK will be "nipping" at UofL heals for the near future. Unless Petrino simply cannot replicate what he did a decade ago, I just don't see how UK can surpass UofL. I will say I don't think UofL will destroy UK like they were a decade ago but still UofL will be the better team.

Not sure what the point is about 6 coaches. Hasn't UK had 5 in that same time frame? Seems like they've both had to overcome coaching changes. And 12-8 isn't exactly one sided.

Wasn't designed to sound like it was. But NKY Bandit's post seems to suggest that this whole thing is going to fall apart without Charlie Strong to bring kids in from Miami when in fact, Louisville's most dominant stretch against Kentucky came while the man now back in charge was running things down on Floyd Street.

If so I think it will be more due to Jimbo of FSU snagging top Florida talent that before hand may have considered looking outside of the state of Florida more so than UofL doing anything that would harm their ability to grab Florida talent.

Petrino's calling card has never been his recruiting though. I'm not really of the belief that he needs a roster stacked with four and five star kids to beat you; obviously, it would help, but I think having top recruits is more of a luxury than necessity for a guy like him (especially at this point in his career).

I will agree that Petrino is among the top coaches in the US but, I often wonder what UofL would have been like if not for Brohm and Bush. Now hear me out. How often does talent like Brohm and Bush come out of the state of KY and how often does such talent even stay in KY versus traditional football powers out of state. The first example to come to mind was a certain Running Back from Boone County who passed by UK and UofL to play for the Tide. However, during UofL's peak under Petrino, it was during the Brohm and Bush era. Because we can assume that the odds of two players of that caliber again both going to UofL during Petrino's coaching Era Part II, I think it is a legit question to ask how dominant UofL would be without those two or just one of those two. I am not going to make an assertion either way but think consideration is justified when trying to determine how dominant UofL will be in the upcoming years over UK. My guess is that UofL will win most of the matchups in the near future but those victories will not be a fore gone conclusion before the coin toss like they were a decade ago if that makes sense.

I agree his forte is coaching guys up but Deuce was insinuating that UL and Florida talent will still be intact. I think Charlie was getting premium FL talent due to his deep UF connections.

Petrino did have the pleasure of getting UK in the meat of their probation. UK did best him in their only meeting while at Arkansas. Will be interesting to see how it goes if over the next few years.

A quick observation....over the last 7 years, lets call that recent, UL won the last 3 games and UK the 4 prior to that. The average score over that span was UK 23.57 UL 23.14. The last 3 years coincided with Bridgewaters arrival(Hurt recruiting). The last 3 years were arguably UL's best ever and among UK's worst ever. It appears the UL recruiting is taking a step backward and UK a solid step forward. I am making the bold prediction that UK will not only stay ahead of WKU but leapfrog UL. :thumb:

UK 4 victories probably had more to do with the UofL coach during that time than anything else.

 

While I hope I am wrong and you are correct, I feel certain that most of the w's in the next 7 years will go to UofL. UK may pull out a few but UofL will have more.

 

And for some reason they are renovating Commonwealth Stadium. SMH.
