I'll be for Western when they are playing almost anyone besides Kentucky. That loss really hurts though. At the end of the day, it's one big factor in a series of things that led to Joker Phillips' dismissal, so maybe that ends up being a silver lining for UK fans if Stoops can put together some teams that rival the good days of the Brooks era.

 

Still hurts to watch that one though.

Maybe I'm wrong on this one, as I'm not as familiar with WKU as I am EKU, but it seems like they have a larger percentage of their students who are more loyal (or at least show more loyalty) to them than they do to UK (i.e., I remember Facebook groups with names like "WKU Students Against Other Students Wearing UK Gear On "The Hill").

That's false. WKU students will like WKU while they're there, but once they're out, back to UK. Lived in BG basically my entire life, and went to WKU for UG.

 

WKU has their share of loyal fans, but a lot of those fans are bigger UK fans. I judged true fanhood of WKU students when the two played each other. You would be surprised that many WKU students rooted for UK.

 

But back to the story, UK should never lose to WKU. It's pitiful the series has been discontinued due to the last two WKU victories.

The last 2 years WKU has definitely been the number 2 team in the state. But I think UK will be back to number one before Stoops leaves

If so I think it will be more due to Jimbo of FSU snagging top Florida talent that before hand may have considered looking outside of the state of Florida more so than UofL doing anything that would harm their ability to grab Florida talent.

 

Are you kidding? FSU, along with UF have always got just about anyone they want in the state of Florida. Only difference now is that Jimbo is actually maximizing the talent unlike the previous regime.

 

Strong was extremely well connected in Florida. The pipeline is not going to be what it was under him. U of L will always get some Florida kids, they have for years. But I can't imagine it being like when Strong was there.

UK 4 victories probably had more to do with the UofL coach during that time than anything else.

 

While I hope I am wrong and you are correct, I feel certain that most of the w's in the next 7 years will go to UofL. UK may pull out a few but UofL will have more.

 

Seriously? UK had a ton of talent those years. Lots of those UK guys from those rosters making noise, starting in the league, and even making Pro Bowls.

 

The last team with Woodson on it was extremely good, and extremely competitive in the SEC. Poor coaching or not, UK was not too shabby those years. Record may not reflect that, but in another conference, they'd have likely won 10 games in a couple of those years.

A quick observation....over the last 7 years, lets call that recent, UL won the last 3 games and UK the 4 prior to that. The average score over that span was UK 23.57 UL 23.14. The last 3 years coincided with Bridgewaters arrival(Hurt recruiting). The last 3 years were arguably UL's best ever and among UK's worst ever. It appears the UL recruiting is taking a step backward and UK a solid step forward. I am making the bold prediction that UK will not only stay ahead of WKU but leapfrog UL. :thumb:

I agree his forte is coaching guys up but Deuce was insinuating that UL and Florida talent will still be intact. I think Charlie was getting premium FL talent due to his deep UF connections.

 

All I said was that the Florida pipe has been open and will remain open. I said nothing to the caliber of Florida players they'd pull in. Only time will tell.

If you want to use recent history, use all of it. You omitted the part of my post pointing out how three of UK's four wins in that stretch came during the worst stretch at UofL in almost two decades. Nothing about UK or UofL's programs suggest that UK will be over taking UofL as the top program in the state any time soon. Will they win a game here or there? Definite possibility. They are heading in the right direction, but to say they will be passing UofL "soon," I just don't see it...
