I think playing in the state tournament is a cool and good experience. But does the state tournament have a bracket for just 7th grade teams, 8th grade teams, and 7th and 8th combined? Or do they only have a 7th and 8th bracket? Do you think it would be more beneficial for Ryle to have a 7th grade team and a separate 8th grade team or to stay with the A and B teams?

Separate teams, separate brackets. They play the whole year as a 7th grade teams and a 8th grade team. The B teams play in the NKYFL. I would rather see them in BCPWFL The middle school league is HS rules ie. no weight limit.

Don't get me wrong I've said some critical things about the BCPWFL because I want it to be even better. The league and the coaches and the guys I coached with were wonderful and very good to me and my family. I have nothing but love for the coaches and the league. I just want to get the most out of it for the kids. The draft should go bye, bye, if you want to even out the numbers do it randomly, no picking players. The weight limit on skill positions should go bye, bye. Both my kids were big athletic and fast. Both had to play guard and tackle. They now play skill positions. While learning to tackle and block are absolutely and fundamentally necessary. It would have been nice to have them start practicing the skills they now need. limit teams to 30. If you have more, add a team. I understand it's easier said than done when you need a coaching staff, but I'm sure there are some assistants that want to run a team. Most coaches are dads anyway so I'm sure you can get some volunteers. A few tweaks here and there, an open mind, and the BCPWFL can grow and continue to serve of youth and the community. Bring Cooper and Ryles B teams back into the league instead of the NKYFL. Just my humble opinion.

Unlike the Union Raiders whose numbers are very large, the Union Jaguars do not have a "B" team. There is an ample number of players at the Jr. level 1-team and Sr. levels 2-teams (1 primarily but not absolutely 7th graders and 1 primarily but not absolutely 8th graders). All players receive more than enough ample playing time and a more than full schedule with possibly 1 bye and at a maximum only having to play 1 team in the league more than once outside of the playoffs.

There is absolutely nothing, wrong with that set up. It just seems like it is ok for the Union Raiders to select or divide players up based on ability, but not the Boone teams, you were wanted them to be randomly put together. No big deal.

Good luck this year with the Union Raiders and Ryle Raiders!

6yrs - 11yrs should be all about development, so yes random is better unless you align with schools like the seniors. I can't tell you how many stars I've seen in BCPWFL that don't even play or start a down of HS ball. Yet they were ranked high in the draft. Seems like they were being drafted to help a team win. I just think when that happens we lose sight of developing all the kids. It's too young to have wins and loses be the driving force. I think middle school or Seniors in BCPWFL is about the right age for that. I feel the same for our younger Union Raider teams. So it's not a biased thought.

Cooper would be back, except for issues with cheerleading and their Director not wanting to be part of the Boone league and a couple of their rules.

Not really going to debate this issue too much but there is a need to clarify a couple points. First, there would have been absolutely no need for the Union Raiders or Union Jaguars creation had the leadership of the BCPWFL strongly considered the request of Ryle's Coach Warner 7 years ago to simply align the teams with the high schools. He wasn't even asking for his specific system to be implemented just simply get the kids aligned together that would be going to 3 and subsequently 4 high schools. The leadership chose not to do this and after a 2nd request was not considered the Union Raiders were formed. A year later the Union Jaguars (Cooper was formed). My understanding is about 3 years or so ago the BCPWFL started aligning it's senior team with the HS's which was AFTER the creation of the Union Raiders.

With regard to the Cooper program, they had a great 1st year in the NKYFL but even with that in year 2 proposals were made by both BCPWFL and the Union Jags and even though there was some issues regarding cheerleading (being allowed to practice indoors vs. not being able to) there was agreement to join the BCPWFL in year two. The BCPWFL subsequently changed it's position and decided they were going to bring in Walton Verona and NOT the Union Jaguars so the Union Jags chose to stay with the NKYFL. Even with that, the Union Jaguars continued to have discussion with the BCPWFL to see if something could be established and to this point it has not made sence for them to do so.

So to say the Director of the Union Jaguars does not want be part of the BCPWFL is not accurate. The organization is a 501c3 non-profit organization with a board and there is no sole decision maker as all decisions, especially one's of this magnitude are handled by board vote. One final point is that the Union Jags have specifically chosen NOT to have teams at the Starter and Midget levels as a concerted effort to keep players in the BCPWFL.

Walton does not play in the BCPWFL but plays in the NKYFL.

I agree with what Roman Empire has posted, and want to also add-

Back when there was discussion at the BCPWFL about aligning with a High School program, it's my understanding that the league wanted the High Schools to work in lock step in helping to provide funding for equipment, uniforms etc for the middle school grade teams. Some High Schools (incl Ryle probably) may have been OK with this- not all High Schools agreed- and so Boone Co Schools responded that all their HS's had to agree to have and support a middle school feeder program or none- it was all or nothing. My understanding is that for some reason, Boone Co HS was the hold out. I could be wrong.

Where the BCPWFL league took too long to respond was in simply creating the alignment themselves rather than waiting on the high schools buy in. Too late- Union Raiders were formed and a year later, the Union Jaguars were formed.

A couple years ago the Raiders applied for, but were denied membership the NKMSAA because of their structure. The main difference between the way the Raiders are set up and the teams in the middle school league is that they draw from up to 3 different Boone. Co middle schools to create their team- so a huge pool to draw from, just so long as your middle school lays within the Ryle district. Whereas the middle schools in the NKMSAA work with only the kids available in their halls. ie: Turkeyfoot, Summit View, Woodland etc.

Walton does not play in the BCPWFL but plays in the NKYFL.

Clearly know that since the Union Jags do as well. The point was WV is who the BCPWFL pursued.

We draw from 3 different middle schools but you have to live in an area that makes your high school Ryle. Some kids at Gray will go to Cooper they play for the jags not the Raiders. If you go to Ockerman and will go to Boone CO. then no, Ryle then yes. same for Gray .

As I re-read my post, that you quoted, I see where it appears I was implying that one person made the decision. I was trying to state the issue was with cheerleading and the cheerleading director(I am not sure of their title) was opposed to playing/cheering in the BCPWFL.

If the BCPWFL did back out like you described, I have ZERO reasons to doubt you, if I was the Union Jags I would be very upset and have a hard time talking the second time.

Maybe now since there are different people leading the BCPWFL things can get straightened out. Plenty of teams and players in the county to play against each other instead of traveling to play, all the while having the Union Jags and Union Raiders continuing to support and manage their respective organizations as they see fit.

They also pursued Grant County to play games within the BCPWFL. Grant was set to start I think last year or the year before but about a month or so before the season they changed their mind. I think I have that correct, I am not really in the loop.

The main goal should be by all the organizations is to support the youth of Boone Co. by coming together and getting on the same page and stop being so stubborn. All the HS's benefit in the end by good solid youth football programs, period.

Right on! I was editing my previous post while you were posting this and I couldn't agree more. To many times people in the role of leadership kept turning everything into a peeing contest.

The goal should be to teach the fundamentals and develop the players for the future period. However, even with all the break away programs that have been created this is not happening. There are still A and B teams within the programs that have broken off. The Bandits have players that are not all from Hebron and Burlington teams.

So, is the true goal to really build fundamentals and make sure the players are executing properly, or is it to win "superbowls", or middle school leagues. Time will tell. Union Raiders, Union Jags and the Bandits are not set up like Fort Thomas, nor is BCPWFBL. If that is the model that everyone wants to go by to be an elite program then there are still changes to be made on all fronts. And there is no denying that what they do in Fort Thomas works whether you like them or not.

Please explain how the Ft. Thomas league is set up since you appear proclaiming them to be the "benchmark". Most coaches do their absolute best to teach fundamentals and yes there are some, and in some cases probably many, that only play to win superbowls. For this season and moving forward all NKYFL coaches will all be certified through USA Football's Heads Up program and while the focus is taking the "Head" out of football with regard to tackling there are a bevy of fundamentals and learnings that all coaches can enhance their coaching skills on. Will there still be coaches out there with the #1 goal of winning superbowls? yes, but the majority of coaches want to teach sound fundamental principles and make sure players have an excellent experience playing the sport.
