Boone County Pee Wee

I have to chime in on this BCPWFL football conversation. I personally don't understand why everyone from BC thinks the BCPWFL is such a great league. I have personally never been part of a team that has lost to a BCPWFL team. I started coaching Pee Wee football in Cincy in the Buckeye League 8 years ago. The Buckeye League is the home of the Hilltop Hawks, Forest Park Rams, Winton Woods Warriors, Western AA Warriors, Mt. Airy Chargers and a couple of teams out of Dayton. This league has the most talented and competitive players I've every seen. The parents and coaches get a little carried away, but that's everywhere in youth sports. I coached against a couple of teams from the BCPWFL those kids would be Soph & Jr. this fall. We blew out the teams from BC. When my son played 1 year for the Bengal Tigers a couple of years ago we played the Bandits and won a hard fought game 8-6. Instead of being good sports about it and wishing us well for a good game, we were called thugs the claimed our RB was too big and they vowed never to play us again. They sad we played dirty football. The week before my son joined the Bengal Tigers they play the Cougars and lost by 3 or 4 scores. It was a blowout to say the least. That Bengal Tiger team had a great run that year and lost the their Super Bowl to a team that had high school players on it, but I digress.

All this talk about which league is better and feeder programs for high schools is all well and good, but what's the point if you're not going to settle it on the field?

Have all the Pee Wee league champs play a tournament at the end of the season and let the kids determine who has the best team and league.

Just 1 football parent/coach/nut's opinion. Good luck this year everyone.

That would mean you played against the Cougars that year in either a scrimmage or game that year, how did that go?

Youth programs should be teach techniques and fundamentals. It's up to high school programs to utilize the kids in their system to win state.

My Hilltop team played the BC champs 6 or 7 years ago at Shroder high school in Cincy. That might have been before the watering down of talent. My point was the NKY football fans view football in a small bubble of NKY talent. If your a good football team you're a good football team anywhere.

Which game are you referring too? The Hilltop game or the Bengal Tiger game. Hilltop beat the Cougars badly the game was called in the 3rd qtr. The Cougars beat the Bengal Tigers by 3 or 4 scores.

You coached against this league just after it was sucked dry by the emergence of two middle school programs that took most of the best players of the league. That being said, no question that there is more talent on your side of the river. Shows up at every level.

When did Hilltop play the Cougar team?

6 or 7 years ago those player should be Jr, So, or Fr depending on how which year we played. I can'r remember if we were 9 or 10 year old's. In the Buckeye league we have teams with 1 year age groups.

Cougar team is a 7th and 8th grade team, their is not any team by that name in that age group in BC.

So, from what you are saying about how your leagues teams are set up, your 9 year old team would have played against a BC team made up of 8 & 9 year olds.

I was assuming the BC champ team that wore Blue and White that we played 6 or 7 years ago was the Cougars. If I'm wrong, I'm sorry for not having a better memory.

C'mon, nobody is allowed to forget anything or get something mixed up because I never do..............................

Based on the level of competition when the jags and union raider kids were still in bcpwfl. As compared to how the league is now. The league was tougher. Yes 40 kids on a team is to much I agree. BUT the league was still feeding kids to Boone, Ryle, and Conner. Your just dividing the same core kids. And some of these teams haven't been better because of the FEEDER progams. And I have seen some union raiders teams with 25-30 kids on them. SO whats the point of breaking away. Ryle, nor cooper has benefited from it yet. And the good core kids each has coming in played in the BCPWFL at one point anyway.

I was going to let this go until I saw this post. First you mention that the feeder programs have no benefit. While you are entitled to your opinion, I will disagree to the extent that these players may get the opportunity to learn not all but a portion of the program before reaching their freshman year at their respective high schools. There isn't a freshman coach at ANY HS that will tell you that it is not a benefit, regardless of how small, to have some or most of his incoming freshman know a portion of the scheme, terminology or plays for that matter BEFORE they arrive. That is time that the coach does not have to spend teaching and can spend coaching.

Second, you make the point that the feeder programs for both Ryle and Cooper have yielded no benefit. Hmmm let me see, the Ryle program is entering it's 5 year of existence so those 1st year players are now going to be seniors after spending only 1 year of the program and the Cooper program is entering it's 4th so those players are going to become Jrs. The Ryle program has yielded two of the best Freshman classes in last two years and a couple of the Union Jag players played in a few games as freshmen in Cooper's run to the State title game 2 years ago. Additionally, the Union Jags have won 2 of 3 Super Bowls in the NKYFL since being formed just 3 years ago. What does all this mean? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING other than the fact that both of these feeder programs are young and it could possibly yield some positive results in the future. Rome wasn't built in a day!!

My final point which I have made in this thread before is that there would not have been a need for either of these programs had the leadership of the BCPWFL had an open mind almost 7 years ago when former Ryle coach Warner asked the league, not once but TWICE, to consider dividing up the 8 Senior teams to the 4 High Schools (2 each) so the high schools could at least have some continuity of the players that would be attending those schools which would not have hurt the league one bit and in fact would have helped to strengthen both the league and the high schools. When the league chose not to listen and scoffed to a 2nd request Coach Warner started his own program thus the creation of the Union Raiders. A year later the Union Jaguars were formed.

In closing, my hope is that one day the BCPWFL and the NKYFL will find a way to merge and create one strong super league where both can thrive and continue to develop players for the future.
