One other thing I just realized. A private school technically don't have spec ed free/reduced lunch kids so they would miss out on that little .25 bonus. The Highlands and Oldham counties of the world have very few.

In theory, it's a great idea. I think the better programs would love to not have to play against those teams and beat them 60-0. Nothings gained by it and the fans don't even get into it, so, typically, those gates are weak.

 

The problem is, where's the drop off. You say lowest 36 teams. Then what if team 37 happens to be a 5a or 6a school. Guess what, they'd still be playing against 5a or 6a competition.

 

If you're going to utilize a 5 year average like proposed( I think a 4 year avg would be better), then all those rankings need to be done the same way. In other words, don't just limit it to 36 teams. Teams 37-87 would go into 2a, 88-118 to 3a, 119-149 to 4a, etc..

 

Then what you have is a Super Class comprised of the best teams in the state over the past 4-5 years, a really good 2nd class and a decent 3rd class. The 4th, 5th and 6th classes wouldn't be too good, but, all classes would be more competitive.

I thought of that at first but then what you get into is punishing teams for being good.

Definitely like the though process behind it.

 

The only tweak I would make is to give them a playoff in a similar model to the All-A Classic. Obviously a Champion is awarded, but it is clear that the Champion is not recognized as a True State Champion by the KHSAA but allowed to compete on Championship Weekend at the least desirable time slot (lets call it Saturday at 9AM).

 

The All-A Schools play an 8 game district schedule and are allowed 4 Non-District Games for a 12 game regular season. The 13th Game is the District Championship between the top two teams (tie-breakers exist similar to what the KHSAA uses). The 4 District winners then play in the Semi-Finals pitting District 1 vs. 2 and 3 vs. 4.

 

There is no longer allowed to be a "Not Competing In District Play" Nomenclature. Either you compete for a State Title in your determined class or you petition to join the All-A Division and are subject to review.

 

If you win your District and Advance the Semi's for the 2nd time in a 5 year window you are automatically pushed back into District Play at your designated class and a spot frees up for a team to petition to move down.

Doesn't Texas have something like Class 1A, then class 1A-A, so on and so forth through however many they have.

 

This class could be, 1A-A.

Demographics in the other classes need to be addressed in my opinion too. Special education and free/reduced lunch numbers should be looked at and counted less in your enrollment in my opinion. Maybe a .75 scale would be a realistic place to start.

I think counting them less towards enrollment is a bunch of bunk. Learning disabilities and dyslexia can get you included in special education numbers, and there's no reason that kind of thing should play ANY role in your inclusion in an enrollment number. You can be just as productive a player on a team and just as valuable of a contributor with a learning disability or after eating a reduced lunch as you could otherwise.

It is statistically proven that kids in special education and with free/reduced lunch don't even participate in extracurricular activity at the same rate as other groups. Therefore 1000 of those kids are not going to produce the same number of players. This is why we use enrollment for classes in the first place. FACTS, BOOM :ohbrother:

You'd get a lawsuit quickly. Everything is set up and modified to allow kids with disabilities to be more successful. Now your saying because they have a disability they are worth less than a kid without a disability. Good luck getting anyone to put a name with that vote.
