Unable to compete

That discussion is for a totally different thread. You know the reasoning for classes in football. You're intelligent, I've read your posts before. Numbers game.

The other real reason? Money.

The point is how is 1000 students at one school different at 1000 students at another school in football...............but somehow that does not seem to matter in other sports?

Agreed. And what emphasis on inclusion does School A put on encouraging students to participate in extracurriculars vs. School B?

The same reason EKU and Murray are FCS in football, away from the big boys...but, thrown in with them come basketball.

Hey people at suburban middle class schools that have no experience in these places: just keep criticizing and never address the facts on the issue because you don't want to believe it. That's cool. My plan, my suggestions, and our discussion doesn't effect your schools anyway so :isurrender:

If you study my posts it shouldn't be that hard to figure out where I live now and who my team is. Lets just say its one of the haves and will never be in the position some of these programs are in. I can however post facts and unbiased opinion without homer glasses on trying to always benefit the situation i'm in.

Look at it like a boxer. I weight 250, i am a skilled fighter, posses a killer right hand, fast feet and great endurance. You also weigh 250 but you don't possess any of those traits. You are a fat, slow, and weak 250. I might beat you silly. Just because you weigh 250 doesn't mean you can compete with me. Just because you weigh 250 doesn't make it a fair fight. I don't have a God given right to beat on you because you weigh 250. I and my fans would probably enjoy a fight more against a different fighter.

So because a school and their students can compete in other sports but somehow cannot compete in football we need special rules and special classes to allow them to compete in football? What about the 90% of the schools that have never won a championship in basketball and the 75% that have never even won a Region championship in the last 15 years? Is there a plan for them? What about the 98% that have never won a volleyball championship? And don't let classes fool you. Track and Cross Country have classes and the same teams win state titles all the time. Let's face it. A lot of schools are better at certain sports than other sports.

You said that a lot better than I could. I love this site and everything it is and brings. But, the only way I knew how to get it across would have been too blunt, and would have caused a great topic of discussion to potentially be locked up (or me kicked off).

Keep watching these private and/or big schools win the KHSAA sacred cow, and bet what people start calling for.

As I said, one of the reasons basketball and baseball aren't classed is because of money and nothing more.

Baseball isn't classed because not enough people care about it. Basketball is classed everywhere in the USA other than KY because of money and I would say tradition to some extent.

So football that is classed with 6 classes should be the easiest sport for every school to compete in. But yet some schools cannot compete with like-sized schools and we feel the need to help them? But yet the small schools and the poor schools and the county schools and the schools that won't take out of district students and the schools with free/reduced lunch students .......hey they are all okay competition-wise in every other sport?

Exactly the reason baseball and softball aren't classed. Just think how many really wouldn't care about it if it was classed (big time $$$$ hit)?

Been to the girls sweet 16 lately? Even the finals? Check those crowds out...even less if classed.

If football could only dress 10-15 kids and could only play let's say, 5-7 of those at a time...you wouldn't need classes.

As I said...watch the wolves start coming out more and more as these big (ger) 4A and up (but, we could draw the line at 5A if you want) schools keep dominating the Sweet 16.

You ever really look at the region champions and their region make up?

You solved the riddle with what you said about baseball. The KHSAA doesn't care about doing what they should do, which is classes and helping the sport get better in our state. The quality would get better across the board, but that paycheck they (KHSAA) get at the end of June wouldn't.

Sure. So classify all sports and give all the schools an opportunity to compete with like sized schools. That is fine by me. What I don't get is most of the same schools in the "special class" that are considered not able to compete in football............aren't able to compete in other sports either but we won't even let them be in with schools their own size.

Grant County says they can't compete in 5A and can't compete in their own district. Really? Tons of schools can say the same thing in other sports.

You'll get no disagreement from me on any of that. I totally agree. TOTALLY.

For the record, I'm as anti 6 Class football as they come (just wanted to throw that out there).

I know as many head basketball coaches across the state (smaller schools) as I do football coaches (well, not that many..but, close), and I haven't heard a one yet say behind closed doors that they don't wish basketball wasn't classed into at least 2, possibly three classes.

Buuuuuttt....there is always the "but" that comes after that, which is "....but, the Sweet 16 is so special." That, plus they don't want to be the ones (the generation of coaches) that put a halt to the "Greatest show in basketball".

Couple of points:

1. Special needs students already count in a different way towards our state testing and accountability...in fact, it hurts a school for a special needs student to be apprenitce (0 point value for the school) vs a regular ed student who scores apprentice (1 point value for the school). Just one example of how it's not as equal as we all want it.

2. Basketball isn't classified for lots of reasons, but with that said it really is easier to find 5-7 kids that can play in a confined space, then it is 22 kids in a wide open space. Basketball does not 'require' strength to be primary component to victory (though it certainly helps), there is no leagal contact in basketball, and in reality if you have a dominant player he only needs 1 guy to inbound the ball and he can take over. Baseball...well, I don't concern myself enough with it either so why even discuss it.

3. Football has CLEAR advantages to numbers. You can sub every play and players can specialize (basketball does not have this) and focus on just offense/defense. The physicality lends itself to numbers as the fresh guy who is even remotely close to being as good as the starter has a clear advantage over the kid who plays both ways the enire game (war of attrition). Because it is a violent game, and the only one like it in boys sports played by nearly all schools (yes I am aware of LaCrosse, but few schools play), it does lend itself to bigger is better and unlike in basketball, the little schools CANNOT knock off the big boys with one dominant player. Yes you can snap it to a freak of nature at QB, but with no OL...it's famon. You can have a super start WR, RB, TE..etc. But without a QB or OL, the aformentioned will occur...a beat down. Football is the amplification of a TEAM sport, so many working parts that specialize that you gotta have the right guys to play it...unlike basketball where 1 guy really can take over and dominate...not that it doesnt help to have others who can contribute, but it is the reality.
