May 12, 201412 yr Interesting, I thought about all those films you listed for Will Smith as they were some of my favorites that he was in, but I still see the same character sneaking out in all of them. When I think of Will Smith I think of the John Wayne category. John Wayne was a favorite actor among many but he always played...well John Wayne. Now I will say that Ali was the one movie where Will Smith did stray from his usual acting. I'm not saying Will is a bad actor, qutie the contrary, but when I think of the best I think of someone like Jaquin Phoenix who play such different roles that you can't compare any two. From Gladiator to Walk the Line to Signs to Ladder 49 were such different characters that really stood apart to me. I guess maybe I as someone who love acting and used to be one just have a different set of criteria for what I think "Best" really means. That's definitely me.
May 12, 201412 yr I think he has shown enough to be amongst the top 50 living actors but I'll understand if he isn't. I agree that he has shown some range in the past, but it doesn't seem like he does those challenging roles very often. He keeps coming back to the big bucks roles that want him to play a tougher version of Fresh Prince.

I just want to be entertained.

I love Don Cheadle There is another actor that many may think is really good but everytime I see hiim I can't get the image of him starring in In Living Color with the Wayans Brothers and that is Jammie Foxx. I just can't take him as a serious actor even though he was awesome in Ray. I just always see this pic of him in my mind when I watch any of his movies.
May 13, 201412 yr With Tom Hanks' early work, I'd agree...same character (goof ball), different story. But, I think he's done quite a few movies outside of that stereotype. Philadelphia Forrest Gump Apollo 13 The Green Mile Road to Perdition Captain Phillips Add Castaway to that list as well.

May 14, 201412 yr Just watched a movie yesterday that I hadn't seen in years..."Sneakers". Guessing it was from the early 90's. Decent cast, with Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, Dan Aykroyd, Ben Kingsley, Mary McDonnell, and River Phoenix. (James Earl Jones also makes an appearance.) Movie was so-so.
May 15, 201412 yr I stand corrected. Forgot about that one. I gave her a pass after Swordfish and then Monster's Ball. I think she's a great actress--just not in that role.

He had a run of about 6-8 yrs where he was the class of Hollywood.....
