The 50 Greatest Actors Alive (Updated Weekly)

Any list that has Jennifer Lawrence just ahead of Robert Downey Jr. and Michael Douglas loses all credibility immediately.

You're right. She should be WAY ahead.

You seem to have misread my post. I think that intelligent people should be able to show some objectivity in separating talent from character. That is what you should have taken from my post.

Fair enough. How do you feel about the Dixie Chicks' music?

Jennifer Lawrence makes one movie and is better than Brad Pitt? Okay.....

Have you seen "Winter's Bone"?

Incredible.

if we're being honest, any of a couple hundred young actresses could pull off her role as Katniss in Hunger Games or Mystique in X-Men.

Mystique, maybe. Katniss, no way.

Jaquin Phoenix being #48 already makes the list a joke. He is deffinatly top 10.

"AM I NOT MERCIFUL?!!"

Never really cared for them and I would never buy their music but I would not say that they are not talented because of their political beliefs.

When I pay to attend a concert, I pay to hear music - not to be insulted or lectured by a musician. If they can compartmentalize their music and politics, then so can I. If not, then I can find better places to spend my disposable income.

If most conservatives couldn't separate personal feelings there would be a lot fewer rich people in the movie and music industries.

Will Smith has played some amalgam of Detective Mike Lowrey, Captain Steve Hiller, Alex Hitchens, and Dr. Robert Neville in damn near every single one of his roles over the last 20 years. He's a small tweak of the same person over and over and over again. His box office draw is huge, but aside from playing The Greatest in Ali (which I would contest required fairly little acting for Big Willie), and maybe playing Chris Gardner in The Pursuit Of Happyness, the guy doesn't really do much to show his range.

So???? I'd argue that 98% of these actors on this list don't show much range and they all play a small tweak of the same person over and over again. Hell, even Leo plays a small tweak of the same person over and over again. McConaughey, Bradley Cooper. Matt Damon. Clooney. Pitt. Nicholson. Hanks. Penn.

Same guys. Everytime.

Just her list from 2001 to 2013

American Hustle

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

The Devil You Know

House at the End of the Street

Silver Linings Playbook

The Hunger Games

X-Men: First Class

And she's a Kentucky girl

No interest in seeing any of those movies so that explains why I haven't seen her work. Maybe X-Men but as was stated...what female can't play in a superhero movie.

No way Will Smith should even be mentioned. Even in his serious roles he is the same guy. I like his movies, but would never think of him as one of the best actors.

Hater.

Boy, disagree about that list as it seems to me just about all of them have played a wide range of characters.

I don't see it. They all seem like the same kind of roles to me. Will Smith has done comedy, action, drama and romance just like all those dudes listed have done. These dudes do the same things over and over. Define range.

Halle Berry in Cat Woman...

Halle Berry in Cat Woman...

I stand corrected. :D

Forgot about that one. I gave her a pass after Swordfish and then Monster's Ball.

Hanks for instance, Philadelphia to Forrest Gump to Dragnet to everything in between. How were they anywhere near the same roles?
