May 9, 201412 yr If they're only doing 1 per week, there's a chance their "greatest actor alive" could be dead by the time they get to them.... I was thinking about that - particularly after seeing that Michael Douglas has already made the list. What do folks think about his 97 year old dad, Kirk? 3-time Oscar nominee, has honerary/lifetime achievement awards from the Oscars, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild (to name a few). Played Spartacus, had a lead role in 20000 Leagues Under The Sea, Paths Of Glory, The Vikings, Lust For Life and Gunfight At The OK Corral (to name a few). Stands at #17 on the AFI's list of the greatest male screen legends in American film history. I personally say he should be on the list....and he could certainly cash in his chips at some point in the next 35 weeks.
May 9, 201412 yr Dustin Hoffman HAS to be on the list somewhere. I'd say probably somewhere in the top 10.
May 9, 201412 yr These rankings are no better than the Cantrell rankings for Kentucky boy's high school basketball.:lol2:
May 9, 201412 yr How about Sydney Poitier? He's a tough call in my book. He probably deserves to be on there just because of the ENORMOUS amount of work he did to break barriers, for which he's deservingly received tons of accolades over the years: Presidential Medal Of Freedom, Kennedy Center Honoree, Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award, AFI Life Achievement Award, SAG Life Achievement Award, NAACP Hall of Fame Award, and an honorary Oscar. He also won an Oscar for best actor (the first best actor ever given to a black person) for playing Homer Smith in Lilies of the Field, and he did a pretty amazing jobs as well as Virgil Tibbs in In the Heat of the Night and as Noah Cullen in The Defiant Ones. Still, in my honest opinion, he's doesn't do too well unless he's doing his straight, serious, dramatic roles - which he does flawlessly.
May 9, 201412 yr So thus far Yahoo! has: #50 Brad Pitt #49 Sigourney Weaver #48 Joaquin Phoenix #47 Paul Giamatti #46 Forest Whitaker #45 Matthew McConaughey #44 Viola Davis #43 Michael Douglas #42 Jodie Foster #41 Ben Kingsley #40 Javier Bardem #39 Sally Field #38 Robert Downey Jr. #37 Jennifer Lawrence #36 Clint Eastwood #35 George Clooney
May 9, 201412 yr Author Morgan Freeman has to be there IMO. Kate Winslet and Helen Mirren as well. There's going to be some outstanding actors/actresses left off the list.

I just don't see it with either of them at this point. :idunno:
May 9, 201412 yr Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Downey Jr.'s inclusion on the list baffle me. I just don't see it with either of them at this point. :idunno: Agreed. I don't think Viola Davis makes much sense either....and depending on who gets left off the list, I could probably argue against Paul Giamatti, Matthew McConaughey, and Forest Whitaker.
