Bracken County Holiday Tournament Shelved

Featured Replies

I've learned that the Bracken County Holiday Tournament will not be held this year.

This has always been a competitive tournament that seemed to have been growing in popularity, drawing some notable teams in the past few seasons.

A.D. Mike Hunter cites revenue loss as the primary reason for its demise.

I must not have eaten enough Tenderloin sandwiches to make the tournament profitable - God knows, I tried.

Looks like he is making a lot of changes, first the coach and now this.

I am not sure how they couldn't be making money. Even if they don't make a ton of money they are saving money by not going to a tournament elsewhere. Why not wait until a head coach is named and allow him to be a part of the decision. Maybe the new coach would have ideas to make it more profitable.

Doing all they can to convince their best player that he should seek a HS education elsewhere IMO.

This tournament has had nothing but problems for at least several years now. I think the year before last it never even finished as far as I know, Louisvile Iroqoius Coach got mad at the officiating and left, weather and frozen pipes backed it up to where teams couldn't show to finish it. Rodrick Rhodes team came in late followed by controversy from its previous games one year. Burgin sent it starters home last year after a hotel incident. Most of the teams invited didn't travel well(fan-wise) because of distance, hence the loss of revenue

I know it isn't easy, but the tournament probably needs to focus more on local teams. Iroquois, Cordia, Burgin - those schools are just too far away. A tournament like Bracken would be better suited with mostly 10th region teams, with perhaps some 9th, 11th and western 16th teams sprinkled in.

I was always wanting the 10th vs 16th format

Bracken County has always played in a Christmas Tournament every year elsewhere. The Bracken County Tournament was always held the week after Christmas. So you could say they lost money by going elsewhere and by having a tournament if that is the thinking
