Graves County Eagles vs. Mayfield Cardinals Saturday April 19, 2014 7:00 pm Kickoff

Ever wonder what it would be like to get your old high school team together for one more game?

I do and Saturday night @ Mayfield's War Memorial Stadium there will be a Full-contact alumni football game with helmets and pads between these to cross town rivals. Alumni Football USA organizes the contests nation wide but this will be only the second such game held in Kentucky. The first was held Oct 26, 2013 between Fulton City and Fulton County (County won 18-0). Participants are able to relive in their playing days. Mayfield currently has 73 on their roster and Graves County has 85. Ticket sales have been awesome with around 4,500 seats sold so far and a lot more expected to be purchased between now and game time. The schools involved will get a portion of the profits making it a win for everyone. Mayfield, Hall of Fame Coach, Jack Morris will be the Cardinals Coach

Crittenden County vs. Caldwell County is scheduled for Saturday Apr 26, 2014 and according to Alumni Football USA is the only other Kentucky game currently scheduled but the site says the following are tentative.

Bowling Green vs. Warren Central KY

Allen County vs. Monroe County KY

Glasgow vs. Barren County KY

Franklin-Simpson vs. Portland KY

Harlan County vs. Bell County KY

Marshall County vs. Graves County KY

Caverna vs. Hart County KY

Garrard County vs. Lincoln County KY

Corbin vs. South Laurel KY

Shelby Valley vs. East Ridge KY

Logan County vs. Russellville KY

Murray vs. Calloway County KY

Hopkinsville vs. Christian County KY

Trigg County vs. Caldwell County KY

Mayfield vs. Paducah Tilghman KY

North Hardin vs. ??? KY

That's a whole lot of crazy!

My son asked me if he should play and I told him no. He has a family and job that comes first.

Really cool! I'm not sure if Alumni Football USA was the same outfit, but there was a similar organization that tried to make this happen between Highlands and Cov Cath about 4 years back. There were a handful of guys who committed to playing, and another decent handful of "interested" guys, but there were never enough solid commitments on either side to get the game to actually come into being.

Awesome that you guys are able to actually make this happen!

I totally want their to be a NKY alumni game. Beechwood vs CCH. Beechwood vs. NCC. CCH vs Highlands. Boone vs Conner. Scott vs SK. Dixie vs Holmes. I could watch any of these games. What else would be a great NKY game from back in the day?

That's a whole lot of crazy!

I agree, there have been some of these games in my area of the state and talk about others. In theory, I love it. But, in reality, how can any adult justify it. This isn't a pick up basketball game or charity softball game, this is a football game.

I saw this movie. "The Best of Times".

Kurt Russell and Robin Williams- pretty good flick.

I see this movie ending much worse- with broken ankles, arms and fingers.

Would love to see this. I hear they are HUGE fundraisers for the schools.

I once thought it was a dumb thing to do...guys being 2-15 years removed from playing organized, full contact football and all of the health risks. But, then, logic set it...and, I realized all of them were both probably driving/riding in a car during the day & THAT is without a doubt the most dangerous activity that they will engage in tomorrow.

Stay safe. Have fun.

I believe that because these players are professionals and parents is all the more reason for them to play. How many of the readers of this post have had a true shot of adrenaline lately? When was the last time you were able to have fun while hitting another human being and not go to jail? I believe men get bogged down in the real world and find less time to do manly things. This game is less about the past and more about what they are able to do in the present.

Some may recall some of these former Csrds

The lists of possible games listed on their site will surely land this event in other towns. With the gate split 3 ways, both teams stand to make about $15,000 if they don't sell another single ticket. Not a bad days work of fund raising

Orthopedic doctors and trainers across the state have been placed on high alert.

You're not kidding. Depending on the age of some of these guys, they better have a fleet of meat wagons there. (Although, if I was able, I'd LOVE to put the pads on just one more time.)
