D'Angelo Russell is the best high school player from KY since.....

Featured Replies

You never know. He carried OSU this season and he could have made Harrell and Rozier better scorers and we all know scoring and inefficient offense did UL in last season.

Louisville has locker room issues that Russell would not have solved. You also have to remember, this was Chris Jones position until he let college life get the best of him.

Russell thrived because he left the Louisville area (nothing against the area). Was challenged to mature on & off the court.

These are great points.

I just think its really cool that this kid developed into the player he is now. I am not a Laker fan but now that Randle will be in the starting lineup and Russell I may start following them.

How about we let the kid play a game in the NBA first before we automatically put him ahead of Rondo. Everybody always wants to emphasize greatness with rings, well Rondo has one and they wouldn't have won it without him either. Let's have this debate in 4-5 years.

See you in 4-5 years then. As of today he is ahead of the Rondo curve.

And yes, Boston would have won without Rondo. 3 Hall of Famers on a team is a pretty good recipe for success. Rondo ain't going to the Hall of Fame. Don't overinflate his worth.

Even more so if they get Cousins.

The #2 pick was supposed to be the key to the Cousins deal so I don't think they get Cousins. I do think they lure either LaMarcus Aldridge, DeAndre Jordan, or Kevin Love in though.

While Russell had a more productive Freshman campaign and was drafted higher than Rondo, we don't know how he will translate to the NBA. We think better, but it is my experience that people over hype how much impact a player will have at the next level. Only a handful of guys ever make a draft class. Only a handful of those guys ever have long careers. And only a handful of those guys will go on to be considered really good to great.

He'll be better than Rondo. Rondo has been overhyped since the Big 3 got together.

D'Angelo Russell is a nice player. If he turns out to be great more power to him. Usually those that do play with a chip on their shoulder. It would not have mattered if Russell played for UK or not last year. UK had every chance to win and they did not. Slowing the game down against Wisconsin was a tactical error that Calipari will rue. Getting back to the subject though I think LA is a terrible place for Russell. Behind the Knicks and Kings it might be the 3rd most dysfunctional organization in basketball right now (okay, okay I know the 76ers are the new T-Wolves). Bryant and Randle are ball dominant players and so is Russell. If they land a big name in FA then it's only going to get worse. In addition that locker room doesn't seem to be like a pleasant place that nurtures development. I know the world doesn't work this way but I think Russell would have absolutely killed it in Boston playing for Brad Stevens. Hope Russell turns into a superstar, I just think the Lakers a terrible fit.
