D'Angelo Russell is the best high school player from KY since.....

Featured Replies

Russell is a better shooter but Rondo was better on everything else. Watched him play at north Laurel,, or south,, and broke the National assist record. Right at 30 that night. He broke his own record that night that he set the game before of around 21..

I know the city of Louisville isn't producing as many nationally recognized recruits as it did in the 70's and 80's but in the last 4-5 years it's produced a solid list of D1 players. DeAngelo Russell(McD's AA/Ohio St), Q Snider(U of L), Kelan Martin(Butler), Kameron Woods(Butler/leading rebounder in the Big East),Remy Abell(Indiana/Xavier),Ian Chiles(IUPUI/Tennessee),Raymond Spalding(U of L),Derek Willis(UK), Darryl Hicks(Boston College), & Aaron Cosby(Seton Hall/Illinois). I'm sure there's a few more I've missed.

No way he is better than Rondo.. that comparision is out the window, literally....

He ain't nothing like Chirs Lofton was!

Everybody on the Rondo wagon still think Rondo was better than Russell? Russell is the best player I have seen from KY in a long time.

Projected to go #2 in the draft.

He's the best since Rondo. He is an amazing player and honestly I think he is a real threat for POY. But I won't say he is better than Rondo until I see him in the NBA.

Big things ahead for this young man. 19/6/5 (46.5% 3P), and I didn't realize he is 6'5". What comparisons are they making?

Are we talking high school accomplishments or how good they ended up? If it's high school nothing Russell has done this year should change anyone's mind about him vs Rondo. If it's later accomplishments Russell still has a way to go but it sure looks like he'll end up as good. As someone said, we would have to wait until he's been in the NBA a few years.

Well IMO, Russell is already a better college player than Rondo.

It started off as high school and morphed into all of the above.

I felt like Russell was better in high school and many disagreed. I feel like Russell has proven to be better in college in the short time he has been there.

Next stop.....the NBA.

Judging from your posts in this thread, my guess is you never saw Rondo play in HS either.

As a freshman at UK, Rondo easily set the single season steals record with 87. Wayne Turner was the previous best, with 79 -- in 6 more games.

Russell has been a stud, but don't discount how good Rondo was in HS, college or the pros...

How is saying Russell is better than Rondo discounting anything Rondo has done? I never said Rondo sucked. I said IMO Russell was better in high school. IMO Russell is better than Rondo was in college. We'll see if he can be as good as or better than Rondo at the next level. Saying IMO one is better than the other isn't discounting anything when we're talking about the careers of these two players.

And I don't recall ever seeing Rondo playing in high school but I've seen plenty of D'Angelo Russell in high school. In Rondo's high basketball days those games weren't as available to be seen unless you saw it in person unlike today where videos and broadcasts are way more accessible.

Russell is the national POY at this point for my money. Ohio State would be pretty bad without him...

Saying Russell is better than Rondo is not discounting Rondo, but saying that Russell has "proven to be better in college in the short time he has been there" seems, to me, to overlook what Rondo accomplished as a frosh in Lexington. That was my point, and that is why I pointed out that Rondo set the single-season steals record as a frosh in Lexington.

For what it's worth, Rondo was probably the best PG in his high school class in the country. He transferred to Oak Hill, where he earned all types of praise. Coach Smith called him the best PG at Oak Hill since Rod Strickland, and I believe Rondo set several records at Oak Hill Academy, too.

FWIW, Russell has been incredible thus far and is one of my favorite players to watch.

Rondo wasn't a POY candidate as a freshman. Russell is.
