MJAlltheWay24
If Lebron really leaves Miami for another destination (let's say New York or really anywhere but LA) and DWade is basically done with his career, what do you think Pat Reilly does? I say the Lakers go after him and get them to run their team. Would he want to deal with the mess that is the Buss family? Would the idea of bringing the Lakers back to their glory entice him? Thoughts?
bugatti
Pat Riley is nearly 70 and I believe perfectly content living in South Beach. With Jim Buss running things I can't see it happening.
spindoc
The Lakers need to let Kobe fade into the sunset. Problem #1.
spindoc
PP92 and Hammertime will claim blasphemy shortly.
plantmanky
The Lakers still exist? I thought the Clippers were the only team in LA now.
born2reign
Not a bad idea- I can't see it coming to fruition with the current Buss configuration leading the franchise.
BobcatAlum
They need to quit putting so much emphasis on Kobe, in my opinion. I think they need to get their selves a franchise player to build around and let Kobe teach him in his last couple years of playing. I think that that's the only option for the Lakers at this point. TTS_JF
They need to play the Knicks every game. Knicks D is horrible.
PurplePride92
The Lakers need to let Kobe fade into the sunset. Problem #1. How is Kobe the problem? Had they listened to Kobe last year Phil would be coaching in LA. They don't listen to Kobe at all. Hell, even Kobe will tell you they overpaid for him so that isn't his fault either. Jeannie Buss needs to take over as teh decision maker of the team and quit letting her brothers ruin the team. It's that simple.

That makes no sense. No one knew Kobe was going to only play 6 games this season. How do you not keep him as the emphasis of your team based on how he played last season? mcpapa
Here's another idea to help the Lakers. See if they can pull some strings and schedule the Knicks 82 games a year.
HammerTime
The Lakers need to let Kobe fade into the sunset. Problem #1. I disagree for obviously reasons and basketball reasons as well. I still think he can be one of your top 2 players on a championship caliber team. He needs a lot more help than in the past. This off season will be key obviously. To answer the question no I don't think there is any chance Pat Riley ends up with the Lakers.

I could be very wrong, but I don't see Kobe wanting to be the mentoring type as he closes out his career.

I don't think he will be mentoring anyone but I know he wants to win another championship. They bring in another star that's established he won't have to be mentoring anyone. It'd be amazing if they could somehow pry Kevin Love from the Wolves before he is a free agent but I can't see that happening. The Lakers just don't have the assets to acquire him IMO.
