My gut feeling says that due to the UK game and lots of folks leaving town, there will be plenty of good empty seats in the lower arena. Buy any ticket to get in and sit anywhere you want.

The seats in Section 32, Row H, Seats 7 and 8 have been empty all week.

Play of the game IMO is Schult taking the Charge on Tisdale with 4 fouls.

Mark the Shark has been my favorite Cov Cath player since the beginning of the season.

BG made it interesting down the stretch. It would have been interesting if they could have cut the lead to four. The last 51 seconds took about 51 minutes. I love watching Ruthsatz, he's got the whole package. I saw Bezold at the game, any chance NKU gives offers?

LEXINGTON — The Bowling Green Purples’ historic run came to an end with an 81-68 loss to Covington Catholic in the Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 on Saturday at Rupp Arena.

 

Looking to advance to the state title game for the first time in program history, Bowling Green fell into a 19-point hole at halftime and trailed by as many as 22 in the second half. The Purples made it interesting with a fourth-quarter rally, but couldn’t complete the comeback to keep the season alive

 

Bowling Green (29-7) equals the best finish in school history, matching the 1990-91 squad that lost to Fairdale in the semifinals.

 

“We ran into a red hot Covington Catholic team,” Bowling Green coach D.G. Sherrill said. “They hit a lot of shots and they hit them in a row. Our hole got too deep. In this environment, a state tournament situation, with a team as good as Cov Cath, you can’t be in a hole that deep. I thought we made a great run at the end. We just ran out of clock.”

"Covington Catholic made its 81-68 victory over Bowling Green look easy for more than three quarters Saturday night, then incredibly difficult.

 

All's well that ends well, though, as the Colonels advanced to Sunday's championship game of the 97th Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys' Sweet Sixteen.

 

"We made it interesting, for sure," Coach Scott Ruthsatz said after his team nearly blew a 22-point lead. "We didn't make plays coming down the stretch. We made some bad turnovers that resulted in quick transition points for a kind of a worst scenario. I give Bowling Green credit. They never gave up, well coached, going to get up into you."

"LEXINGTON, Ky. – Covington Catholic saw a 23-point lead dwindle to six in the fourth quarter before pulling out an 81-68 victory over Bowling Green on Saturday night in a Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Sweet 16 semifinal.

 

Some fans in the crowd of 13,862 might have considered leaving Rupp Arena when the Colonels, from the Ninth Region, took a 69-46 lead about a minute into the final period. But CovCath (32-2) had to hold on, hitting 9 of 10 free throws in the final 1:23 to advance to a championship game matchup against Scott County (35-3) at 2 p.m. today.

 

It will be CovCath's first trip to the finals in 47 years, or since the Colonels lost to Earlington 54-53 on a last-second put-back in the 1967 title bout in Louisville's Freedom Hall."

CovCath, which used a 25-4 run over the final 2:17 of the first quarter and first 3:48 of the second quarter to erase an early 9-6 deficit, had a 23-point lead cut to six with less than two minutes left but went on to win 81-68 on Saturday night in Rupp Arena."
