Scott County 62 Trinity 56

Featured Replies

The kid was tough--no doubt about it. He outscored the rest of his team by 10 points. Trinity could not find an answer to him. I question whether any team could have last night. SC did a good job of getting him the ball on out if bounds plays when T had to foul. Of course, he was money on the line. SC's version of T's Craig Owens , Martin, played a very good game too.

I am not all disappointed with T's improvement this season and look forward to next year.

It was a great game between two really good teams. Trent Gilbert was amazing and will obviously go down in the Sweet 16 lore when you talk about it to your grandkids. I was surprised that Trinity did not eventually put their defensive stopper, Ramser, on Gilbert. It appeared that Trinity said Ware is not going to beat us again (after dropping I think 27 on them the first game) and put Ramser on Ware in which he held him to 4 pts. I would have thought that after a while they would put Ramser on Gilbert. As mentioned numerous times on Trinity threads, many people said their free throw shooting would get them some day and last night was that day. Stafford was 1-6. As others have said I did see some improvement in Long from the first game of the year that I saw him against Ballard. Maybe not a ton but there was some and I did think he had an impact on the game.

Spoke with someone in the concourse today who goes, "it's a shame they voted on Mr. Basketball before the Sweet 16".

I was talking to a Scott County fan in the concourse and he said the same thing. And I agree. Gilbert has played great all year and from what I've been told he's a total gym rat. No one works harder than him.

The same fan told me that Scott County's PG is injured and that's forcing Gilbert to handle the ball more. He said the one kick in him is he isn't a great ball handler. But he seems to be doing ok enough in this tournament, to me anyway.

Waited on week to see Gilbert play again in person, man did he put on a show. The kid is a straight baller!

The coaches "gave" that recognition to both seniors as lifetime achievement awards (most wins by a class over four years, that sort of thing). I don't agree. They don't survey the fans. Nor do they survey press row, etc. for all-tourney team.

Lack of higher percentage free throw shooting hurt Trinity in this game. I expected poor FT shooting would do the Rocks in vs. Ballard, so it was not a surprise. Scott County earned it. They played Trinity's tempo and outscored the Rocks by 12 in the second half. Trinity NEVER adjusted for Gilbert. Q. Snider could not dominate a game in this fashion versus Trinity. Martin could not do it. They both are D-1 scholly players.

That makes Trinity 1-1st, 1-3rd (T) and 1-5th (T) in the three trips to the Sweet 16.

Five months until football action!

I was wondering why, but me being a homer I would have liked to see Spalding on the all tourney team. I want as many accolades and as much recognition for him as possible.

Gilbert on clutch three to put Cards up 54-53... Called it the biggest shot of his life.

“I caught it and squared up and I jab stepped,” he explained. “His hands were down, so I figured that was going to be the best look I’d get.

“Coach probably doesn’t want to hear this, but my eyes were closed when I shot it.”

Legend born.

Wow.

I do believe Ivory coming back into the game cost T. I understand the idea of having your senior pg leader on the floor but when he came back it disrupted the chemistry.

I guess its something that coaches do but Spalding not on the all tourney team is not fair to him.

Exactly.

Gilbert was amazing against Trinity,,,,,,,,,,and then today he goes 4-25 and 0-2 from the line

As I recall I think that Ivory started on Gilbert, then they tried Ramser for a while. Neither could do much with him. Stafford didn't stop him, but I thought he slowed him down a little. Regarding the free throws, Louisville Catholic Sports is reporting that Stafford played with an injured wrist on his shooting hand. That might explain the free throws. Regardless, congratulations to SC and Cov Cath. I saw Trinity play quite a few times this season. They played their best ball at the end of the season. You can't ask for more. Thanks guys for a lot of good memories, enjoyable moments and the promise of more to come in the future.

Ivory did start the game on Gilbert and Trinity was down I think like 12-2. Ivory picks up two fouls and then Ramser was on him the second quarter and Trinity goes from down ten to up five. Not sure anything would have stopped him but I would have taken my chances with Ramser's extra three inches. That might have made a difference as Gilbert's "move" is dribble dribble jab step back pop. As long as Stafford had his hands down that was there for him, the extra few inches seemed to help Von Handorff on Sunday. Anyways I just think in the end is was Scott County's night to shine.

No it's not.

Exactly what I was saying in an earlier thread. You take a kid like Gilbert who has been nails all year and if he can tack on a State Championship avg over 30ppg in the Tourney......Give it to him !!!

Snider

Davis

Martin

In that order are your top 3 players in the state.

Gilbert is a stud, he put that team on his back and is one win away from becoming a S16 legend. I like what I saw from Stafford, he is a nice player for the Rocks. I'm baffled that a 7'1" player was basically invisible the whole game.

We didn't watch the same game. Gave Spalding fits all night.
