Scott County 62 Trinity 56

Featured Replies

I don't think Trnity choked by any means (not counting FT shooting). Scott County played excellent defense and Gilbert was just unreal. I think big Long bothered Ray Spalding some, although I can't complain about Ray's total game at all. SC appeared well coached and rode their horse. This may sound stupid but I didn't think T played all that bad on Gilbert. It's just that he has that step-back shot and has the ability to go straight up so quickly to shoot that make him tough to guard. Plus he has range. I don't think there is anyone in the 7th Region quite like him. He has good handle although T knocked the ball loose a couple of times...to no avail. As an aside, does Coach Hicks always work the officials as hard as he did tonight? He is quite animated to say the least. I thought the officials did a workmanlike job. The better team won.

Nice win by Scott Cty, proving the experts wrong again.

I'm no expert, but this one stunned me as well.

Every game I've ever seen him coach.

Gilbert is a stud.....plain and simple the kid is a gamer.

People were quick to criticize me when I said Long had improved through the year and could be someone who makes a difference for Scott County. He obviously isn't a big scorer, but you could tell that Trinity's kids were looking for him when they got to the rim and I'm sure that he had something to do with Spalding not having his best game.

What is the story behind Long? Was he at Scott Co last year? I heard he was a transfer but unsure if it was before last season or this year.

Long came from North Carolina, unsure when. He played AAU this summer with the Karolina Diamonds, who are an up and coming Under Armor AAU team. He said he wanted to get out of the spotlight of the triangle (Raleigh-Durham) and develop on his own.

He initially visited Trinity when he transferred from NC.

Thanks for the info :thumb: both you guys.

Spalding not making the all tournament team? Wow

The coaches "gave" that recognition to both seniors as lifetime achievement awards (most wins by a class over four years, that sort of thing). I don't agree. They don't survey the fans. Nor do they survey press row, etc. for all-tourney team.

Lack of higher percentage free throw shooting hurt Trinity in this game. I expected poor FT shooting would do the Rocks in vs. Ballard, so it was not a surprise. Scott County earned it. They played Trinity's tempo and outscored the Rocks by 12 in the second half. Trinity NEVER adjusted for Gilbert. Q. Snider could not dominate a game in this fashion versus Trinity. Martin could not do it. They both are D-1 scholly players.

That makes Trinity 1-1st, 1-3rd (T) and 1-5th (T) in the three trips to the Sweet 16.

Five months until football action!

I think there is a thread on this subject. I think...

Congrats to the Cards! That was a big time win.

Happy that Gilbert is shining brightly on the big stage of the Sweet Sixteen.

Hope he puts on another show tomorrow.

Spoke with someone in the concourse today who goes, "it's a shame they voted on Mr. Basketball before the Sweet 16".

I am not quite sure why someone would make that statement,,,He has done it all season......

Exactly what I was saying in an earlier thread. You take a kid like Gilbert who has been nails all year and if he can tack on a State Championship avg over 30ppg in the Tourney......Give it to him !!!
