March 20, 201412 yr I'm guessing it takes 5 mph at least off his fastball and just trashes his control. Where do you get that logic? He got hit in the head not the elbow.
March 20, 201412 yr Where do you get that logic? He got hit in the head not the elbow. The mental aspect only, not physical. I'm also looking at what we know from Chapman's history, especially his desire to be alone during the offseason. I really hope I'm wrong.
March 20, 201412 yr Wow. Rocket.Yea, it could have been A LOT worse from the looks of it. Just look how far the ball ricochets off him.
March 20, 201412 yr I'm guessing it takes 5 mph at least off his fastball and just trashes his control. I'm not sure how it would take anything off his fastball but his control might be a little shaky at first because he will be worried about getting hit with the ball and not about throwing strikes.
March 20, 201412 yr I'm not sure how it would take anything off his fastball but his control might be a little shaky at first because he will be worried about getting hit with the ball and not about throwing strikes. My point was that the slightest bit of hesitation might take some speed off his pitches. I hope not because a lot more hitters can catch up to a 97 mph fastball than a 102 mph one.
March 20, 201412 yr John Fay @johnfayman 9m Pena: "Chapman was cheering me up. . . After I heard from him today, I feel better." #reds Kremchek on Chapman: Very mild concussion. Will have surgery. His eye is fine. Mentioned 6 to 8 weeks before he's pitching. #reds Kremchek: Chapman will have a plate put in. #reds Kremchek on Chapman: Where he got hit -- you don't want to say a good place -- but he's very lucky. He can be a normal human being. #reds
March 20, 201412 yr Sounds like he was very lucky. When does baseball go the way of softball and have face masks for pitchers?
March 20, 201412 yr Sounds like he was very lucky. When does baseball go the way of softball and have face masks for pitchers? I believe it was last year after Alex Cobb took a liner to the dome when I read an article about that idea in MLB. Apparently someone ran that up the flagpole at some point in time recently, and the pitchers in the players union resoundingly stomped the idea out.
March 20, 201412 yr Surgery today. Inserting a plate. 6 to 8 week recovery. Hoping he can find the plate after the fact.
March 20, 201412 yr Surgery today. Inserting a plate. 6 to 8 week recovery. That's pretty amazing. Back in the 50's when the Indians' Herb Score got hit, he missed the entire season. Maybe the injuries aren't exactly the same, but still...
March 20, 201412 yr Honest question here...if your Chapman do you consider going to the house. If I'm Chapman, coming from the crap I came from in Cuba and, even after a really scary injury, still having promise to make a lot more money in the greatest country in the world: no, I keep throwing heaters.
March 20, 201412 yr Honest question here...if your Chapman do you consider going to the house. Meaning retire?
March 20, 201412 yr Hookers, Benzos, cartons of cigs at his disposal. He'd likely take one in the dome weekly to maintain that lifestyle.
