Bengals tweeted that they have extended Marvin Lewis through 2015.

Great news, they should totally get Dalton signed long term next!

Signed,

All non-Bengal fans

He must have been cheap if Mikey spent money in mid March.

Just a vote of confidence, I wouldn't read into this at all.

Anthony Collins out

Michael Johnson out

TJ Ward no thanks, we will pull Crock off his couch in November

Tate we cant do without

Marvin we appreciate your style in big games and your clock management, cmon back and stay as long as you would like.

I may be missing the point of free agency, but IMO the Bengals really suck at it.

Taking the Bengals side of it, they have a young and talented roster and they are going to go with their current roster and the draft.

With all that said, I would like to see a FA CB and losing Collins is a concern.

Which explains a lot. I dont believe in whole sale FA changes, but I watch the best teams sign pieces that make them better. Denver, Seattle, SF, NE all with just a signing or two, but something. Status quo will just lead to another Rd 1 exit.

The Bengals certainly have a different philosophy but other than maybe Dalton it is hard to argue with their success in the draft the last few years.

Actually they were talking about this on the radio the other day....The teams in the postseason this past year averaged having only 6 of their top 60 players come about through FA or trades. Most of the successful teams build through the draft. Typically, and this year does seem to go against the grain, the teams making the big FA splash are the Tampa Bay and Cleveland's of the world.

Yep, this doesn't mean much, and doesn't guarantee he will be the coach in 2015. Just takes him off lame duck status and gives him a little more weight over the players. I also wouldn't worry about the lack of Bengals action in free agency. As was mentioned, they've got a young talented roster. They don't need impact, they need depth, and will likely pick some players up to round out the depth. There's a reason most guys are free agents. Many are very expensive and on the downside of their career. How did making a big splash in free agency help the Eagles a couple years ago??

A lot of things in life I may regret but not giving up my Bengals tix.

........

Fans are funny.

Who didn't see this coming, coming off of 3 playoff years in a row? The fact that he only got one year tells me that he has been given an ultimatum that he must advance in January 2015 to earn a "real" (read: multi-year) extension.

Amazing how so many people know so much more than Duke Tobin (and Katie and Troy) about running an NFL franchise. All this team has done is have several great drafts in a row and make the playoffs three straight years in one of the most competitive divisions in football. What a bunch of morons!

I have no problem with them not going out and giving some of these huge contracts some of these guys have got. My main problem was not keeping Collins.

As for Marvin I thought he should have been fired after this last playoff lost. However this one year extension means nothing, if they were committing to him for a a few more years it would mean something. All this one year means is a vote of confidence but can easily be gone if they tank this year.

Just goes to show you anybody can coach in the NFL. :D

In the NFL, sucess in measured in the post season. How many playoff wins have the Bengals had in your lifetime?
