Marvin Lewis' Contract Extension

Featured Replies

In the NFL, sucess in measured in the post season. How many playoff wins have the Bengals had in your lifetime?

You can count them on one hand. In their entire history. Disappointing doesn't even begin to describe it.

I have no problem with them not going out and giving some of these huge contracts some of these guys have got. My main problem was not keeping Collins.

As for Marvin I thought he should have been fired after this last playoff lost. However this one year extension means nothing, if they were committing to him for a a few more years it would mean something. All this one year means is a vote of confidence but can easily be gone if they tank this year.

Define tank.

Sad...

Nope, your doing it wrong 2 Humped Camel it's all about division titles and no playoff victories around here. You should know better. This moron has learned to have no expectations once the regular season has ended. I'm going to take the same lax approach the organization does and there's no way I would pick up a free agent or two to fill a need and build the team necessary to win playoff games with the draft and off season acquisitions.

That's silly talk which simply make too much sense. Please excuse my sarcasm, I couldn't agree with you more. Give me a wildcard playoff berth by the skin of our teeth, a 9-7 regular season, and a playoff win or two and I'd be ecstatic.

Dont forget the brains of the operations are gone too Mike Zimmer and Jay Gruden. Bengals Division will be improved they will be weaker. 7-9 at best.

Anthony Collins out

Michael Johnson out

TJ Ward no thanks, we will pull Crock off his couch in November

Tate we cant do without

Marvin we appreciate your style in big games and your clock management, cmon back and stay as long as you would like.

I may be missing the point of free agency, but IMO the Bengals really suck at it.

Sure let your big signing be a dude that is 90-90-1 and holds the NFL Record for most games coached without ONE SINGLE PLAYOFF WIN> Typical Mikey Brown mickey mouse operation. They would be nuts to sign Tipper The Little Red Pistol lets draft a REAL QB:dancingpa

Starvin Marvin is 0-5

Remember how bad it was before folks. Would you replace 1992-2002 with 2003-2013? I would.

Because they were really bad, 10 years of mediocrity suffices. Mikey Boy loves that mentality...

"It's all about the money boys" Bottom line. As long as Brown makes money he is satisfied he will never change. Wins and losses come second sure he's system works about every few years and they make a good run but his system always makes him money.

They are what they are and is why I don't even bother paying much attention to what they do in Free Agency because they tend to have too many fans drunk on the Bengal juice when they do nothing in FA but come out of it having many convinced they were the big off season winners and have the most talented team int he league even though they haven't won a playoff game since my oldest (who is married now) was only 3 years old.

Bengals do nothing in Free Agency except watch some of their best players leave.

So signing Marvin to an extension just like they did after he went 4-12 is no big surprise.

The Bengals actually have picked up some good players as free agents - Burfict, Gilberry, Pollack, Hawkins, Crocker to name a few. They just haven't signed a big name free agent. If they keep drafting the way they have the past few years, I am happy with sign your own and avoid big name free agents.

......

If they had given Marvin a 10 year extension, I could see the reason for all of this fire and brimstone from the peanut gallery. They gave him a 1-year extension, which, as it has been said, is basically a "win in January this year or be out" extension. Everyone clamors to fire people (Marvin, Dusty, Dalton [so to speak]), assuming the grass will be greener after that. So easy to make calls from your couch, much harder when you're the one having to make the decisions.

When Mike Zimmer and Jay Gruden become successful coaches, please, give me a hearty "I told you so". However, when both flop and are fired within 3 years, remember this conversation.

Maybe I'm too close to the situation to be completely objective, but I just can't believe the level of disgust there is in this thread. The Bengals have built a consistent winner in the toughest division (arguably) over the last 5 years. They have drafted well and had some solid signings to round out the roster. No, they haven't won in the playoffs, and that stinks, but don't lose sight of the big picture.

As I said when everyone wanted Dusty fired, be careful what you wish for.

Signing Marvin was of no surprise with me at all. We all knew he would be coaching next year. If he wasn't they would have fired him by now.

Like I said, I do t get too involved anymore with them during the offseason because they do the same things every single year so no use in getting worked up over something you can't control.

Now if they signed him to a long term contract I would have exploded in here.
