March 19, 201412 yr ...... If they had given Marvin a 10 year extension, I could see the reason for all of this fire and brimstone from the peanut gallery. They gave him a 1-year extension, which, as it has been said, is basically a "win in January this year or be out" extension. Everyone clamors to fire people (Marvin, Dusty, Dalton [so to speak]), assuming the grass will be greener after that. So easy to make calls from your couch, much harder when you're the one having to make the decisions. When Mike Zimmer and Jay Gruden become successful coaches, please, give me a hearty "I told you so". However, when both flop and are fired within 3 years, remember this conversation. Maybe I'm too close to the situation to be completely objective, but I just can't believe the level of disgust there is in this thread. The Bengals have built a consistent winner in the toughest division (arguably) over the last 5 years. They have drafted well and had some solid signings to round out the roster. No, they haven't won in the playoffs, and that stinks, but don't lose sight of the big picture. As I said when everyone wanted Dusty fired, be careful what you wish for. Great points MTGL, the disappointment and frustration of not winning the playoffs would be the source of the disgust. I like your being mindful of the division championships approach and find solace in that. However, I held this team to a higher standard last year since I thought they had the tools to get over the hump and win a playoff game. I will not make the same mistake this year. Instead I'll allocate more time to more valuable pursuits like family. :thumb: Hellbird, I'll wingman with you on a few games this season preferably in the second half. Have a good rest of the week folks!
